Balloon Adventure Accordion Card

My mother-in-law is about to celebrate her 87th birthday which in itself deserves a really special card but she also happens to be one of my greatest supporters as a card-maker - so I wanted to pull out all the stops!

I've seen, and admired, some accordion cards by Omelliesdesigns and spent a bit of time working out a similar design that would work for my purpose.

Only the ribbon closure on this Accordion Card gives an indication that there's more to this card than meets the eye!

I used Rich Razzleberry card stock to make the card and added a panel to the front that I had cut with the Balloon Pop Up Thinlits. I used the matching Balloon Adventures stamp set to silver heat emboss the balloons onto Whisper White cardstock and punched them out with the Balloon Bouquet punch. I stamped the banner and greeting with Rich Razzleberry ink and hand cut the banner.

I hid the edges of the panel with some of the Metallic Ribbon left over from Sale-A-Bration. I adhered the Ruched Ribbon (for the closure) before adding the decorations to the front of the card.

At first glance, it seems like a normal card when opened

The inside of the card is decorated with Silver Heat Embossing, Rich Razzleberry ink and the Balloon Adventures stamp set.

There's quite a wow factor when the card is fully opened to reveal the message!

Since my Mother-in-Law's vision is a little impaired, I used a retired stamp set, called Sophisticated Seriphs, because it has large, clear letters. I also used the Number of Years stamp set for the age.

Party Monster

This happy little party monster will find its way to my little great niece.

This little monster is eager to party!

To add some dimension to the card, the monster has a shiny (or slimey!) covering from the Fine Tip Glue Pen and the balloons are at various depths.

I first stamped the monster and the balloons with Basic Black Ink. I coloured the middle balloon with Sweet Sugarplum and Rich Razzleberry Stampin' Write Markers.

I then punched a whole lot of balloons with the Balloon Bouquet punch using Pink Pirouette card so that the edges would blend in with the card front.

Working on the two lower set balloons first, I put some Multi-Purpose glue on the stamped balloon image and placed a punched balloon on top. Then I adhered another punched balloon on top of that. I then used the stripey balloon die from the Balloon Pop Up Thinlits and cut one with Sweet Sugarplum and one with Rich Razzleberry card. I placed glue all over the top layer of punched balloon and added the decorative balloon pieces. Once the glue had had a chance to dry sufficiently, I carefully cut away the part of the balloon that overlapped the neighbouring balloon.

I then repeated the process with the topmost balloons but added more layers of punched balloon.

I hand drew the strings.

Adventures with Balloons

I made this card to enter into Jessie Holton's colour challenge this week #CTC020.

I wasn't sure I would like the colour combination but, as it turns out, I really like it! It seemed like a good opportunity to break open the Balloon Adventure Bundle which I've picked up to use several times in past weeks .... and then put down again. Today was the day!!

The set is designed to make a pop up card easily but I decided to use it for a panel for the front of the card today. I confess, I did add some Very Vanilla to the mix and I used it to cut the decorative balloon panel.

Despite the Peekaboo Peach, I think this card would be suitable for male or female recipients

I used the matching stamp set to stamp the banner and greeting in Night of Navy and used a Peekaboo Peach Stampin' Write Marker to colour in the lettering.

I then partially cut the balloon bouquet again using Peekaboo Peach cardstock and glued the strings in place. I cut a bow with one of the dies also in Peekaboo Peach and glued it in place so that its ends overlapped the Very Vanilla border.

I cut the striped and spotty balloons from the die set using both Smoky Slate and Peekaboo Peach cardstock and then paper pieced, mixing and matching the colours.

The gorgeous opalescent little sequins on the middle balloon are from the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit.

The balloon panel is attached to the card with Adhesive Foam Strips to provide dimension.
