Nailed The Move

The moment that I've been dreading arrived last weekend ... my son left the nest to share a house with some friends. From the moment of his birth, my brain has known and accepted the inevitability of this day and is quietly celebrating for him, acknowledging the growth and development it will provide but my heart just can't get with the program!

I made this house-warming card for the trio of young men.

The inspiration for the layout came from an old sketch for a challenge run by the talented Dawn Olchefske: DOstampersstars Thursday Challenge DSC#082.

The square panel is elevated on Stampin' Dimensionals

He and his friends have already embarked on a steep learning curve and have been measuring, dismantling and reassembling things.

I chose some papers from the Serene Scenery paper that were masculine and also reminded me a little of textures that one might find around the house.

I chose the Nailed It Bundle partly because of its masculine appeal and also partly to celebrate the development of their home-maintenance skills!

The ruler, nuts & bolts and shaft of the screwdriver are all cut from Silver Foil Sheet. The entire hammer and the handle of the screwdriver are stamped with Basic Black ink onto Whisper White card and coloured with Stampin' Write Markers.

I chose to hand-cut the hammer and screwdriver handle because, for this particular project, I didn't want a white edge around the images.

The greeting is from the Tasty Trucks stamp set - free during Sale-A-Bration with any order of $90. Sale-A-Bration runs only until the end of this month - so make sure you take advantage before it's too late!

The nuts and bolts continue inside the card but this time they're stamped.

Inside the card, I used Basic Gray ink to stamp the nuts and bolts and then coloured them with a Smoky Slate marker. I stamped the spanner onto Silver Foil Sheet with Jet Black Stazon ink and cut it out with the matching die before gluing it into position.

Nailed It Shaker

My original intention, when making this card, was that it should be my anniversary card for my husband. But, now that I think about it .... he has many wonderful qualities but .... he's not really a handy man! So, I think I'll be going back to the drawing board on the anniversary card!

I love the beautifully masculine Urban Underground Suite!

The jar is from the Jar of Love bundle and is a shaker element full hand little bits and pieces.

I heat embossed the greeting in white onto a scrap of the Designer Series Paper that reminds me of a blackboard and I just love those masculine Urban Underground embellishments!

For my black-handled screwdriver, I cut the handle from Basic Black cardstock and then, by hand, added the highlights with a Chalk Marker.

The inside of the card is decorated with another nut and a spanner

Nailed The Get Well

This card is included in Kylie Bertucci's International Highlights. The top ten winners will be part of an international blog hop - so we're all keen to do well! Our theme for this highlight is Get Well Soon - a great way to cheer up someone who is feeling down.

It's not always easy to come up with a get well card for the unwell men in our lives but this one just popped into my brain when I was browsing my stamp sets with this card in mind.

Mending ... tools .... Get well!

I used the Brushwork Alphabet stamp set to create the greeting to go with the gorgeously masculine Urban Underground Suite.

The greeting is popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals for some depth

I used the wonderful Stampin' Write Markers to colour the hammer and the handles of the saw and screwdriver before cutting them out with the matching dies. I stamped the screwdriver, saw and spanner onto Silver Foil Sheet with Stazon ink (because it's a non-porous surface) and replaced the white screwdriver and saw blade with the silver ones.

I spent far too long arranging the tools! I wanted them to look a bit random (I really don't do random well!) but also bring the eye down to the greeting - so they're in a sort of messy inverted pyramid.

Inside the card, I stamped the large "Thinking Of You" greeting from the Time of Year stamp set because it fits nicely but also takes up plenty of space, so I don't have to think of anything clever to say!
