Punch Art Pokemon card - Eevee

I was at a loss about what to create for my great nephew's birthday card and then remembered that he likes Pokemon.  In fact, he recently went to school dressed as a Pokeball!  I've already made a Pokemon card for him in the past so had to hunt for a different Pokemon to make!  Meet Eevee.

Eevee looks a pit non-plussed that the embossing isn't showing in the photo!

Unfortunately, the embossing on the Whisper White piece is not showing up in the photo (and I had already given away the card before I realised).  The main card is a 5.5" square in Real Red.  The little strip of DSP is from the Pop of Pink set.

There's a Real Red Enamel dot on the greeting label and you may be wondering where the black ones come from?  Having seen someone else peel the white backing from the White Perfect Accents to create clear dots, I thought "why not try to then reapply them to some black cardstock.  I must admit that I really miss the neutral colours that were available in the Candy Dots range. 

I haven't included full instructions for Eevee here only because there was some free-handing involved but feel free to contact me for more details.

Head: is the centre of one of the Swirly Scribbles thinlits.

Mane: Leaflets framelits
Feet: Santa's Sleigh thinlits (the stocking)
Hind leg: Santa's Sleigh thinlit & Paisley framelit with a little bit of nip & tuck!
There's also part of another Paisley framelit just showing under the mane for a suggestion of tummy or 4th leg.

I used a Chalk Marker to colour the tail and the mane and add the white dots to the eyes.
The ears and eyes are coloured with Basic Black and Chocolate Chip markers.
I used Soft Suede and Crumb Cake cardstock.

Star Wars Stormtrooper

I wanted to make a special birthday card for one of my Great-Nephews and at the moment he really loves Star Wars Stormtroopers!  So I decided to have a go at creating one with punch art!

Not exactly perfect but not too bad for a first attempt.  The nose piece is Basic Gray cardstock with black

The first thing I did was to Google images and then I made a little sketch and started looking for shapes that I could punch.

I decided what size I would like the finished piece to be and worked backwards from there to determine sizes for the elements.  The first size I chose was the diameter of the circle for the top of the helmet.  That gave me the dimensions for the square that I cut and round cornered and to which I glued all the pieces.

I've included a photograph of the back of the piece that shows the punches I used and how I attached them.  Also included in that photo are the shapes I used for the grey and black pieces.

The only pieces that I didn't photograph are the thin strip of black cardstock between the top of the helmet and faceplate and the nose piece, which I ended up hand cutting! 

I used my snips to round off sharp corners when I cut the eyes from the oval punched shapes.

I used a 1/2" circle punch for the black circles on either side of the mouth piece.

Drawing up the grid

For the inside of the card, I thought of that old chestnut "May the 4th be with you" and made a play on that.  When positioning the letters, I lightly drew a grid with a pencil to help determine what I'd be able to fit on a line as well as to help line it all up and centre it.  The photopolymer stamps really helped with this process!

The Happy Birthday greeting is from the stamp set Boys Will Be Boys, the number "4th" is from Number of Years and all the remaining letters and numbers are from the Back to Basics Alphabet. The hearts were from Another Thank You and I stamped them in Real Red.

Can you guess his age?

The black card base is 5 1/2" square (5 1/2" x 11" scored at 5 1/2").  The white layer is 1/4" smaller at 5 1/4" and the Basic Gray layer is 5 1/8".

It was a bit of a learning experience and, if I did it again, I would know to pay closer attention to symmetry and would reduce the length of the "face" a bit.

The oval punches are retiring on 31st May but I think the new Layering Ovals Framelits will provide suitable shapes.

Star Trek Birthday card

The Star Ship Enterprise

One of the guys in the office is turning 40 next week so I made a card for him that we can all sign. 

As you can probably guess, he's a big Star Trek fan!  He has used various sound bites from the show as incoming message alerts on his phone.  He also has the sound of a Wookie from Star Wars (that's his wife's ringtone!) but I thought The Enterprise would be easier to produce than a Wookie!  

Also - I had seen two cards on Pinterest!  One is by Virgo5 who CASEd one by crazykim over at Splitcoaststampers.

I used the Confetti Stars Border punch and the star from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack to punch the stars in the Basic Black cardstock which I then layered over a slightly smaller piece of Whisper White cardstock to create my starry background.  I could only punch as far as the punches would reach - so it looks a bit as if the ship is cutting a swathe through the galaxy!

The ship is mostly cut from Smoky Slate, sponged with the same colour ink.  There are a couple of little bits of Real Red and a little bit of Whisper White.  

Wink of Stella gives the numbers a starry sheen

I used the Large Oval Punch for the nacelles and one of the Ovals Collection Framelits for the .. other oval bit!  The saucer part was cut with Circles Collections framelits and all the other little bits were hand cut or left over strips.  

I cut the numbers from Basic Grey cardstock and gave them a coat of Clear Wink of Stella.
