Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop: Valentine's Day - Rooted In Nature

Welcome to the monthly Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop.  You are currently visiting Stephanie Fischer (The Crafty Thinker) from Australia.

Our theme this month is Valentine's Day and this is my card. I've never been more grateful that my husband doesn't know the names of any of my stamp sets!

A masculine Valentine Card with no hearts in sight!
I'm not really one for hearts and pink (or even traditional red) for Valentines day.  This has a masculine, non-frilly approach to saying the most important thing.

The last year has been extremely difficult and my wonderful husband has been there beside me the whole way: holding my hand, supporting me; reminding me who I am, who we are and that life is good.

Thank you for visiting.  I hope you enjoyed this card.  You are currently visiting Stephanie Fischer - be sure to click on "Click here to enter" below and then click on all of the photos below to check out all of the other wonderful projects that my co-hoppers are sharing today,  you don't want to miss any!

'Til next time!

Pug Punch Art card

This card is a little different for me - not just because I don't usually do much punch art but also because I designed it but my son actually made it for his girlfriend who has a pet pug called Peanut.

Punch art in the form of Pug dogs creates a very cute card

The base card is Early Espresso 6"x6" with a layer of Blushing Bride embossed with the Subtle folder.  He stamped the greeting "I love you" from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set and then had-built the word "most" with the Brushwork Alphabet stamp set.

Using Peanut as our model, we made the pugs with Early Espresso and Crumb Cake cardstock.  He hand drew the wrinkles and foot pads with an Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker.

The hearts (large from Up & Away die set, small from Cookie Cutter Builder Punch) and bows were my son's idea.  I think the result is just adorable!

Head:
1.75" square - round corner with the Detailed Trio Punch (or you could use a circle punch or die)

Ears: 1 x Four Petal Flower Punch - divided into 4 pieces (2 for each dog!) and curled with a bone folder

Tongue: Small circle with the top cut off (the same punch as for the black part of the eyes would work) or the ears from the Elephant Builder Punch may work

Nose: Same small circle as black part of eyes, trimmed with snips

Eyes: 3/4" circle in Early Espresso x 2
Cookie Cutter Builder Punch - 2 Small white circles & 2 larger black ones

Bow/Bowtie: Cookie Cutter Builder Punch

Lower part of face:  1 5/8" Layering Circle die, trimmed to size

Body:
A piece of Crumb Cake cut to 4 1/8" x 2 7/8"
Make a fold in the centre and open up again
Fold the top corners down to the centre line as illustrated
Fold the top sides down to meet the centre line (rather like making a paper plane)
Fold up the triangles at the bottom in line with the straight edge to make the feet. Use snips to round off the points if you like.

Judicious use of glue will hold everything in place and I recommend using a bone folder on the folds.

Sweet & Sassy Valentine

My son asked me to make a valentine card for him to give to his girlfriend - I hope she likes it because I really like her too!

A fresh and modern valentine card with bold, bright colours
The base card is Rich Razzleberry to which I added a layer of the glorious Painted With Love Special Designer Series Paper.

The hearts are cut with the Sweet & Sassy framelits from Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo cardstock, Gold Foil Sheet and another piece of the Painted With Love paper.

The foliage is cut from Night of Navy scraps of cardstock using one of the Bouquet Bunch Framelit dies.

Cutting and layering the flower adds depth to the card
I stamped the flower from the Falling Flowers stamp set three times onto Melon Mambo cardstock with Basic Black ink and used a paintbrush and a little Rich Razzleberry ink to add some shading.

I then cut the centre parts from two of the flowers, adhering one part to the main flower to provide depth and the other one to the gold heart as a small flower in its own right.

There are some Faceted Gems in the centres of the flowers.

The greeting is from the Petal Palette stamp set.  It's stamped with Fresh Fig ink onto Whisper White cardstock which I cut with one of the Bunch of Banners framelits.

Your comments are always very welcome!

Thank you for visiting.

Sneak Peek Occasions Catalogue: Cozy Cottage with Petals & More

I can't wait until January - there are so many great products that will be available in the new Occasions Catalogue and then there's all the freebies and special offers during Sale-A-Bration!  Fortunately, one of the great perks of being a Demonstrator is that I don't have to wait quite so long - only until December!

This card provides a sneak peek of two great products in the new Occasions Catalogue that runs from 3 January to 31 May 2018: Cozy Cottage stamp set and Petal & More dies.

The dies are part of the Petal Passion Suite and coordinate with a stamp set called Petal Palette (they'll be avaliable as a bundle for a saving of 10%).  I'll show more of that beautiful suite in coming posts.

The Cozy Cottage stamp set is very versatile: Housewarming, Valentine, birthday or  a masculine card (without the flowers!)
I stamped the wall with the gate first in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock, masked it and then stamped the house and garden.  I coloured it all with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.

I cut the Pool Party and Basic Gray layers to size and then used the largest Lots of Labels die to cut the window in the centre of the Basic Gray layer, centreing it over the image.
#thecraftythinker, #stampinup, #cardmaking, #sneakpeek, Sneak Peek Occasions 2018, Cozy Cottage, Petals & More, Stampin' Blends, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
A double layer of the paper-pieced Petals & More die cuts provides depth as well as framing
I cut the flowers with the Petals & More dies using Smoky Slate and Pool Party cardstock and paper-pieced them together.  I then repeated the process to build a second layer to provide depth to the card as well as some framing.

The finishing touch was to place some Black Rhinestones in the centres of the flowers.

Cozy Cottage is an exclusive stamp set in the new Occasions Catalogue which will be available only to event hosts with qualifiying purchase values.  The really great news is that during Sale-A-Bration (3 January to 31 March 2018) hosts with qualifying sales will receive an extra $40 in rewards as well as freebies from the Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

Thank you for visiting.
'Til next time!
