The You've Got This stamp set remains one of my favourites

I still love colouring this "You've Got This" flower!

This time I stamped on Whisper White cardstock with Basic Black Archival ink and watercoloured.

I cut it out with one of the Layering Ovals framelits using the Out of the Box technique and then searched around for something to complete the card.  These little offcuts of Foil Frenzy seemed to fit the bill.

Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop - Favourite Technique: Monochrome Watercolour

I really love to paint and colour - and a technique that has given me a lot of pleasure over the years is to paint a stamped image as a monochrome.  In the past I've always used watercolouring (examples here  and here) but for this hop I decided to extend myself a bit and try using the wonderful new Stampin' Blends alcohol markers to achieve a similar result.

If you're wondering about that gorgeous lacy die cut - it's a sneak peek of a die in the new Petals & More thinlits set.

I started out with a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock with the You've Got This flower stamped in Whisper White Craft Ink.  I then coloured the flower using the Stampin' Blends in Pink Pirouette Light, Calypso Coral Light and Calypso Coral Dark.

I tested the colours on a scrap of the cardstock

I cut the flower out with a square Stitched Framelit (using this technique to extend the shape) and layered it onto a piece of Powder Pink cardstock.  The base card is Flirty Flamingo with a layer of the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper in Powder Pink.

I used Flirty Flamingo cardstock and one of the new dies in the Petals & More Thinlits (sneak peek!) to create the lovely lacy strip and added a label made with Powder Pink and Flirty Flamingo cardstock and the Stitched Shapes and Layering Ovals dies.  The greeting is from the Watercolor Wings stamp set using Cherry Cobbler ink, stamped off.

You've Got This Blend

I'm currently having a great weekend in the Gold Coast - the highlight being On Stage on Saturday.  I'll share more information on that later in the week and I'll share sneak peeks from the upcoming Occasions Catalogue as soon as possible!

My swaps for On Stage - I made several in each colour

These are samples of the swaps I took with me to On Stage.  The You've Got This flowers are coloured with the new Stampin' Blends alcohol markers and cut out using the out of the box technique (keep scrolling down for a tutorial on that technique).

Cherry Cobbler and You've Got This

I used four alcohol markers for each flower.  For the Cherry Cobbler version I used the Cherry Cobbler Stampin' blends as well as the Calypso Coral.

Daffodil Delight You've Got This

For the Daffodil Delight version, I used the Pumpkin Pie markers as well as the Daffodil Delight pair.

Rich Razzleberry You've Got This

For the Rich Razzleberry sample, I used team those two markers with the two Pink Pirouette markers.

Out of The Box Technique Tutorial

Out of the Box Technique - Step 1

Position your chosen die on your project and use a pencil to lightly draw around the inside of the die

Out of the Box Technique - Step 2

Determine which parts will be outside of the die cut and, using your snips, cut straight up to those parts of the image - try to cut at a 90 degree angle to the image.
Note:  I had quite a few separate pieces sticking out of the die cut so there are quite a few cuts!

Carefully fussy cut around the parts of the image that stick out from the pencil line (which is where the die will cut)

Out of the Box Technique - Step 4

Making sure that the cutting edge is facing down towards your project, slip the die underneath the parts of the image that will be outside of the die cut.  Tip:  You may need to turn the die to make this step easier and then straighten it once you've successfully slipped it under the necessary parts of the image.

Run the piece through your Big Shot (or similar die cutting machine) in the usual way.

You've Got This Between The Lines

This is a story of rejection, transformation and persistence!  Have you ever had a plan for a card that seemed perfect and about which you were excited?  You maintained the excitement and worked feverishly on the card and then - when it was finished - thought "Meh" ?  If so, do read on - this story is for you!

I really love colouring in the free Sale-A-Bration paper Inside the Lines and had a panel that I'd already coloured with watercolour pencils.  I'd mainly coloured the flowers shades of pink but had thrown in a few yellow ones so that I could put it with anything.  

I'm sure you can see why I didn't like this card!

Pretty soon I had envisaged a card using this panel in an offset position and trimmed with a large, bold yellow flower.  I laid out my panels and tested them against a variety of papers before I made my selection and finished my card.

I put it in my light box and took a photo of it and that was when I looked at it and went "Meh"!  I threw it into a corner of my craft room, deciding that I could never feature it on my Blog  or even use it.

Eventually I felt sufficiently guilty about it languishing, alone and rejected, in the corner that I decided to try to give it a face lift!

I found I could peel off the decorative panel without causing too much damage (with the help of my long, thin paper piercing tool) and simply added some layers of Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White.  I embossed the Whisper White layer with the Lovely Lace embossing folder.


Whilst it's still not one of my favourite cards, I will at least use it now.

So the moral of this story is, if you've made something that you don't like - don't despair and don't throw it away.  Take out your scalpel and give it a face lift!
