Rose Wonder Brusho

I experimented a bit with this Brusho background.  I made it at the same time as this one and it started out looking very much the same.   I wanted more muted colours so, while it was still wet with pools of colour all over the glossy cardstock, I spritzed with alcohol.  It worked like magic!  The alcohol repelled the water and I was left with this result.

After I'd adhered the rose, I used Stampin' Blends alcohol markers to colour the leaves and add some shading around the rose.

I wasn't very neat and there were little splodges of marker on the die cut so I attacked them with my Color Lifter.  The poor thing was working overtime and couldn't remove all the colour but it did blend it out and I rather like the result.  I thought the completely white die cut looked a little stark and stiff against the loose background.

The greeting is white heat embossed.

TIPS & TRICKS

• Use Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol such as Isocol)
• I strongly suggest spritzing the alcohol in a well-ventilated area ... or, as I did, vacate the area for a while afterwards!

I LOVE creating backgrounds with Brusho Crystals!  I do get very messy hands (perhaps I get too carried away!) and I don't like to waste anything so I tend to make several at a time and keep them to one side until inspiration strikes!

I have created Brusho backgrounds on watercolour paper, Whisper White cardstock and Thick Whisper White cardstock and loved all of the results.  So I decided it was time to experiment with Glossy White cardstock ... and what joy it was!

This little piece is actually what I call a "2nd generation" piece - where I've already created one background and then pressed some scraps into the leftover pools of colour.  Typically I find I'm very happy with the 2nd generation, the 3rd generation is fine but often needs a bit of help but after that it's all a bit muddied up or washed out.

The original background has very intense, strong colouring and this is much more delicate.

I needed to heat emboss the image because I planned to colour with alcohol markers so I couldn't simply use the Basic Black Archival ink as I would normally on Glossy cardstock.  Having wiped the card with my Embossing Buddy, I tapped the stamp onto the Versamark pad first then onto my Basic Black ink pad, stamped the image and added clear embossing powder before heating with the Heat Tool.

The greeting is from the Blooms & Wishes stamp set.  It's photopolymer so it can be shaped to perfectly fit into the Banners For You banner which I then cut out with the coordinating Bunch of Banners framelit die.

High Tide Rock Spray

This was the last of the watercolour backgrounds on glossy cardstock that I made a couple of weeks ago. I'll be honest - I enjoy the process of the watercolour background (especially on glossy paper) but then I tend to get stuck and not know what to do with them!

So I pick them up and turn them around in my hands until I see a shape to work with - in this case a crashing wave splash.  So then I looked at my sea/beach type stamp sets and when my eye fell on the lighthouse I was immediately reminded of that wonderful photograph of the lighthouse seemingly being engulfed by a huge crashing wave.  Do you know the one?

So I made myself a mask by tracing the wave onto some vellum and cutting it out and then I stamped the two-step lighthouse with Basic Black and Basic Gray inks and sponged the sea with Island Indigo and Dapper Denim inks before stamping the waves with Night of Navy ink.

Once I'd removed the mask I used Night of Navy ink, a finger dauber and paintbrush to soften the edges a bit and to add a little definition to the area.

The birds are stamped with Basic Black ink.

Sunset Flamingo

A week or so ago, I used up some stray Melon Mambo and Pacific Point ink on my craft mat by spritzing with water and smooshing some pieces of Glossy Cardstock into the resulting puddle.  This is one of those pieces.  It was probably my favourite one because of the pink cloud.

To finish the card, this is what I did:

• Stamped the water swirl with Pacific Point ink
  Using Elegant Eggplant ink and two of the three stamps for the flamingo body (I didn't use the plain one)
• Masked one of the feet and stamped the legs with Elegant Eggplant (both stamps)
• Watercoloured a little Whisper White Craft ink in the top part of the "water"
• Stamped the tall grass with Elegant Eggplant ink
• Watercoloured a little Melon Mambo ink into the Flamingo body
• Sponged some Elegant Eggplant ink onto the bottom of the piece
• White heat embossed the greeting from Blooms & Wishes onto Basic Gray cardstock, cut it out with one of the Leaflets framelits dies, trimmed it to fit onto the side of the card and sponged the edges with Elegant Eggplant ink
• Cut some more foliage with an Eclectic Layers Thinlit die from Smoky Slate cardstock and sponged the edges with Basic Gray ink.
• Adhered the leaves to the card with Mini Glue Dotes and added a Glitter Enamel Dot
