High Tide Rock Spray

This was the last of the watercolour backgrounds on glossy cardstock that I made a couple of weeks ago. I'll be honest - I enjoy the process of the watercolour background (especially on glossy paper) but then I tend to get stuck and not know what to do with them!

So I pick them up and turn them around in my hands until I see a shape to work with - in this case a crashing wave splash.  So then I looked at my sea/beach type stamp sets and when my eye fell on the lighthouse I was immediately reminded of that wonderful photograph of the lighthouse seemingly being engulfed by a huge crashing wave.  Do you know the one?

It's amazing what you can see in a watercolour background
So I made myself a mask by tracing the wave onto some vellum and cutting it out and then I stamped the two-step lighthouse with Basic Black and Basic Gray inks and sponged the sea with Island Indigo and Dapper Denim inks before stamping the waves with Night of Navy ink.

This is the little vellum mask I made

Once I'd removed the mask I used Night of Navy ink, a finger dauber and paintbrush to soften the edges a bit and to add a little definition to the area.

The birds are stamped with Basic Black ink.

Thank you for your visit.

Stampin' Dream Blog Hop: Carry Over Products - High Tide

Image may contain: text
Welcome to the Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop, running monthly. You are currently visiting Stephanie Fischer from Australia. I hope you enjoy my card showcasing one of my favourite Carry Over Products from the old catalog to the new one.

I have chosen to use the High Tide stamp set, which is so good for masculine cards and this will be my card for my husband's birthday!  I have paired it with some of the great new products in the catalogue.

In the closed position the sponged sky and sea complete the scene on the from of the card

For the clouds, I used the new Pattern Party masks and dabbed on several layers of Whisper White Craft ink with a sponge dauber - adding more white to the top of the clouds.

I cut off a little more than half of the front of the card and replaced it with a piece of Window Sheet to which I added a strip of Sahara Sand at the bottom.

I stamped the Sahara Sand strip with the rocks/pebbles with Soft Suede ink and then sponged that area with some Crumb Cake Ink.  I sponged the rest of the strip with Lemon Lime Twist and stamped some grass with Tranquil Tide ink.  I then cut some of the foliage from the Bouquet Bunch framelits in Tranquil Tide and Lemon Lime Twist card.  I trimmed the Tranquil Tide pieces and then added the pieces, overlapping them, with the help of the Fine Tipped Glue Pen.

I had previously stamped the lighthouse onto Whisper White cardstock with Basic Gray and Real Red inks and cut it out.  I glued it into place on the front of the card.

Use of the Window Sheet keeps the card sturdy

I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock to size for the inside of the card, masked off the area I wanted to colour and then sponged with Tempting Turquoise ink with a touch of Night of Navy towards the bottom.  I then stamped the sea with Pacific Point ink and added the birds with Basic Gray ink.

When standing open, some of the greeting shows

If I repeat this design, I might take the sea further down the inside panel so that only sea is showing when the card is standing open.

This camera angle is looking down onto the card somewhat

The birthday greeting is from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set and is stamped with Tempting Turquoise ink.

HighTide Crescent Moon

It's my son's 25th birthday and I so wanted to make a card as special as he is.  I had some very elaborate plans that involved the use of window sheets and clever placement.  However, my body didn't cooperate!  Since I was battling against a misaligned rib, I was moderately pleased with this card.

The lighthouse represents the ray of light that my son is in my life.

I started with a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock and stamped and masked and sponged.  I made the mask for the crescent moon with a Post It Note and the 1" circle punch.

The lighthouse was stamped with Basic Black and Real Red inks then masked.  The rocky outcrop was stamped with Basic Grey ink.  I then randomly stamped part of the same stamp with Basic Black randomly and sponged the bottom of the card with Basic Black ink.  I then masked the rocky section.

The sky was sponged with Night of Navy ink and the light beam was stamped, several times to increase the intensity, with Whisper White Craft Ink.

The sea was stamped with Night of Navy ink and then sponged with Marina Mist.  I also added a streak of Whisper White as a reflection of the light beam.

I removed all the masks, used my Embossing Buddy and stamped the greeting with Versamark before heat embossing with Whisper White embossing powder.

Serene Scenery at High Tide

As soon as Christmas was over I started madly creating cards so that I could pre-schedule a few weeks' of blog posts during my holiday.  In the last few days, it's all got a bit hectic and I started worrying about my schedule - Designer Series Paper to the rescue!

A soothing summer day by the sea

For this card, I stamped and sponged over the lower part of a piece of paper from the Serene Scenery paper to create the scene.  I stamped and fussy cut the light house and glued it into position and then stamped some more grass over the lower part.

As soon as the I'd stamped the birds and the sentiment, it looked finished!  In a matter of moments I'd cut and glued the layers and the card was done!

A loving message for my husband!

I'm going to give this card to my wonderful husband, so I added a heart and greeting inside from the Sealed with Love stamp set.

Thank you for visiting.
