Christmas Double Easel Fold

So, I originally made this card for a Crazy Crafters' Blog Hop and although the hop has been postponed, I've decided to go ahead with this post anyway.  It's a CASE of a card by Patty Bennet I just love this fun fold and its versatility - change the colours and embellishments and it can suit all occasions.  And, best of all .... it's quick and easy!

I've made a couple of Christmas cards using the Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper as my jumping off point.

In her blog post, Patty has included all the dimensions in inches with very clear instructions as well as a video.  She's also provided lots of great tips for colours and die cutting.

I decided to convert the dimensions to metric sizing so that I could easily made two cards from my one A4 piece of Sahara Sand cardstock.  Basically it's a question of cutting the A4 in half vertically but for the more precise (like me) you'll want to measure your cardstock and may need to slice off the merest whisker so that it measures 28cm by 10.5cm.  Score at 14cm and fold in half.

The Tranquil Tide cardstock measures 26cm x 9.5cm.  Score and fold at 13cm and 19.5cm.

Glue the Tranquil Tide piece to the Sahara Sand base card.

Cut one piece of Designer Series Paper to 12.5cm by 9cm and two pieces should measure 6cm x 9cm.

Then it's just a question of choosing how to dress up this gorgeous fun fold!  I was guided by the patterns on the paper.  For the first one I used the Foliage Frames label - which happened to be sitting on my table.  It was actually a reject from a previous card because I wasn't happy with the way I'd added the Frost White Shimmer Paint.  However, for this card, it didn't matter!

The foliage is cut using the Pretty Pines dies and the sentiment is from the Christmas Traditions Punch Box.

This Christmas Double Easel card has a snowflake theme
Since this piece of paper inspired snowflakes, I cut a piece of Glimmer Paper with the Blizzard Thinlit and sponged some of the snowflakes with Tranquil Tide ink.

The greeting is from Snowflake Sentiments stamp set and the labels are cut with the Foliage Frame die set and the Pretty Label Punch.

Since the Gold Faceted Gems are self-adhesive, it was important to ensure that, when folded closed, the gem on the free-standing snowflake wouldn't stick to the base card.  The remedy was simple - I put the little circle cut from the centre of the snowflake onto the exposed adhesive on the back of  the snowflake.

Bauble in a Blizzard Christmas Card

A few months ago I made an experimental background using several masks and stencils (most of them homemade with some of my dies) and sponging with a variety of inks.  I wasn't very happy with the result but, unwilling to consign it to the bin, was waiting for the right opportunity to use it.

Using up a colourful but rejected background for a bright Christmas card
So here we are!  I'll confess though, that in order to use the most subtle (!!) part of the pattern but in the location I wanted it, I cut a circle from the background (hidden behind the top panel) and placed it under the bauble.

I cut a circle in the top panel of Bermuda Bay with one of the Layering Circles Framelits and then embossed with the Blizzard Thinlits die, using the Embossing Mats.  The Detailed Bauble is cut from Champagne Foil Sheet and decorated with rhinestones.

The word "Christmas" from the Merry Christmas Thinlits is cut from Black Foil Sheet and I added some Black Mini Sequin Trim to the top of the Bauble.

Merry Blizzard Christmas Card

Yet again with the hard to photograph card!

The top layer of Fresh Fig cardstock was punctuated with snowflakes using the Blizzard Thinlit die and then attached to a piece of Sparkle Glimmer paper before attaching to the Gray Granite base card.

This was the clearest photo I could get but it doesn't really show the colours or sparkle properly!
I attached the Copper Foil greeting to scraps of Gray Granite cardstock and fussy cut around it.  My thanks go to fellow Crazy Crafter, Shirley Jones Taylor for that idea - although my cutting skills are far inferior to hers!

Waste not, want not (as my Grandmother always used to say) - I used some of the Fresh Fig snowflakes to decorate the inside of the card.
