Floral Phrases Gate Card

This card is entered into this week's Crazy Crafters Project Highlights.  Click here to see the other great projects and vote for your favourites.

Stampin' Up have really excelled themselves with all the really beautiful papers in the Catalogue this year and I love them all - but this would have to be my favourite!  This Floral Boutique paper is simply stunning - it needs very little else!

I made this card for my my lovely team-member, Satomi, to celebrate her latest achievements.  It can be a bit daunting to make a card for someone so talented - so I whipped out the Floral Boutique Suite (matching paper, stamp set, dies and washi tape) and the card pretty much made itself!

Navy and white is such a classic combination - Dapper Denim adds a little warmth

I made the 6" gatefold card by cutting a 12" square piece of Night of Navy cardstock in half to 12" x 6" and scored it at 3" and 9".

I cut the layers to the size I wanted and then cut them in half.  When adhering them, I lined them up against the inside edge so that they would retain the look of square layers on the closed card.

For the belly band closure, I cut a piece of Night of Navy card to 12" x 2" and folded it around the card, leaving a small gap at the front.  I added a length of Dapper Denim Ruched Ribbon and then covered the gap with the small Night of Navy and Whisper White Layering Squares panel, decorated with Dapper Denim flowers cut with the Botanical Builder Framelits).  I added a Dapper Denim bow.

I cut my squares of DSP to size and then cut them in half to adhere to the card front.

For the inside, I cut a 5.5" square piece of Whisper White card.  I used Night of Navy ink and stamped with the Floral Phrases stamp set.  I stamped the patterned edge at the bottom with full strength ink but stamped off before adding the edging to the top.

All the papers in this gorgeous DSP pack are beautiful and mix and match so well!

I cut more of the gorgeous paper for the side panels - two pieces measuring 5.5" x 2.5".  I added a length of the Dapper Denim ribbon before sticking it to the card base.  I added a heart-shaped Enamel Shape (in Night of Navy from the Regals pack) to each end of the ribbon and some more Night of Navy and Dapper Denim flowers which White Perfect Accents centres.

Abstract pattern with Botanicals - the card that designed itself!

SU, Botanical Builder, modern card, handmade card, bold pattern
To make the squiggle, I inked part of a stamp in the Tin of Cards set

As I was sitting at my table this afternoon, moving things around in a not very inspired fashion, I came across a stash of Botanical Builder "extras" left over from previous cards.

Some of the flower centres (two Basic Black and a Bermuda Bay) fell onto some Whisper White card and my brain went "hello!"

Nearby on the desk was a previously rejected frame in Blackberry Bliss and a folded Basic Gray card base left over from a change of mind - and the card started to pull itself together!

I cut some layers of Whisper White and Bermuda Bay - using very fine margins (there is only 1mm of the Bermuda Bay showing around the edge of the Smoky Slate layer) and cut a few more of the flower centres.

The yellow centres are from the It's My Party Enamel Dots pack and, since I only had six left, I added a Bermuda Bay Candy Dot on a brad base to the centre flower.

The Bermuda Bay Candy Dots on the greeting panel tie it all together.  About half way through the process of making this card I decided it was going to be for one of my friends in England who I miss very much - hence the choice of greeting.

So really, this is a card that almost made itself!  If you like it - do go over to Kylie Bertucci's blog and vote for it in the Crazy Crafters Team Project Highlights!

Watercolour Wings Joy Fold card

The Joy Fold is one of my favourites and I haven't made one for a long time - until now.

There are many great tutorials available on You Tube, so I won't go into too much construction detail.  Suffice it to say that I used Bermuda Bay cardstock for the card, layered with Pool party.

I should use the Watercolour Wings stamp set more often - it's a beauty!
I stamped all of the Pool Party panels for the larger part of the card with the beautiful flourish from the First Sight stamp set.  I used Basic Grey ink for the front panel and the large inner piece and Bermuda Bay (stamped off) for the inner left side to surround the greeting.  The greeting is from the Birthday Blossoms stamp set.

I layered a piece of plain Whisper White cardstock to the inside of the small section of card.  This is where I'll write my message.

I stamped the large triple stamp butterfly from Watercolour Wings onto the small piece of Whisper White card for the front.  The colours I used are Basic Grey and Bermuda Bay.  I used markers around the edge of the butterfly and added a shadow with a Smoky Slate marker.

Then I masked the butterfly before stamping the background with the same flourish - but this time inked with Smoky Slate and touches of Bermuda Bay and Basic Grey.  I stamped off first so that pattern wouldn't overwhelm the butterfly.

For the closure, I added a flower made using the Botanical Builder Framelit set and added another small flower to balance the composition.  I gave the flowers Basic Black candy dot centres.
