Eclectic Layers Foliage

The other day I made a card using black foliage cut with the retiring Eclectic Layers dies and kept the strip of card from which I'd cut the shapes (of course!).  So today, I'm using that.

Eclectic Layers - using up the negative spaces from die-cutting

Onto a Coastal Cabana card base I layered a piece of the retiring Tea Room Designer Series Paper followed by my strip of leftover black card.

The greeting is from the retiring hostess stamp, Very Vintage, cut out with one of the Stitched Shapes dies.

I added a couple of pieces of black foliage cut with the Eclectic Layers .... so now I have another strip of "negative shapes" to use!

The retiring products (Eclectic Layers, Very Vintage stamp set and Tea Room paper) will be available only until 2nd June or while stocks last.

Negative Space Frosted Bouquet Butterfly

It's been a scary week for me.  As I shakily set out on my breast cancer journey, I think this card is a timely reminder to look for the beauty in the negative.

As some of you may know, I tend to hang on to bits and pieces "because they might be useful later"!  So long ago now that I can't even remember it (although my son would tell you that doesn't really narrow things down too far!) I cut a black sprig from a scrap piece of cardstock.  Then I looked at the negative piece and thought it might be useful later!

So here it is - later has arrived!  I trimmed the scrap into a neat rectangle with one of the Stitched Rectangle dies and then layered it onto some Champagne Foil Sheet.

Then there's another black layer that I ran though the Big Shot with the Subtle embossing folder and a little edge of Champagne Foil (I always cut out the middle to use for other projects).

I added a wrapping of black ribbon before adhering it all to the Basic Black card front.

The greeting is from Itty Bitty Greetings and is cut out with the Classic Label Punch.  I used this method to shorten it.

I used Stazon ink to stamp just a small butterfly from the Butterfly Gala stamp set and then used the coordinating Butterfly Bouquet punch to punch it out and also a second, unstamped butterfly.  I adhered these to the card, using bits of Stampin' Dimensional to pop up the wings of the stamped butterfly.

Then I went crazy with gold Metallic Pearls!

I rather liked the result, so I made a variant that includes some butterfly themed paper that I had left from Saleabration.  Now I've got a little black sprig die cut that might be useful later .....!

Eclectic Layers - using leftovers

It's no secret that I abhor waste and try to find uses for all sorts of scraps - so here's another!

This card features the strip leftover after I'd been cutting out Swirly Snowflakes!

With Stampin' Up! On Stage just around the corner, I've been really busy making swaps for the event.  I'll be one of 50 of the Crazy Crafters Team at the Sydney event - so I'm making (almost finished!) 65 swaps.  I'll share them with you on Monday 9 April!

One of the elements in those cards is a Berry Burst scroll cut with one of the Swirly Snowflakes dies.  Well, there are two on each card - so that's 130 scrolls!  I cut them from strips of cardstock to save as much waste as possible and squeezed them together as close as I could. 

Then I looked at the leftover strip and decided to put it to use - part of one of them, anyway.  I'm not sure what I'll do with all the rest!

The base card is Berry Burst with layers of Very Vanilla and Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper in Berry Burst.

I cut the flower from the Eclectic Layers die set out of Very Vanilla cardstock and used sponge daubers to colour it.  I then added the top layer that I cut from Berry Burst card.  I used a similar process for the leaves using the Lovely Laurel die set.  I adhered the flower to a scrap of Very Vanilla card cut with one of the Layering Ovals framelits.

The sentiment is from the Beautiful Bouquet set, stamped onto a little scrap of Very Vanilla card.

To finish the card, I placed a Glitter Enamel Dot in the centre of each of the cut outs.

Golden Reindeer

This week I've been sharing my "this leads to that" creative process and this card represents the end of the chain.

Finding a good home for the negative piece of cardstock leftover when die cutting

On Wednesday I shared a card for which I cut a reindeer from Early Espresso cardstock - well this is what happened to the negative piece - a little bit of gold turns negative to positive!

It's always good to have a bit of gold at Christmas!

I simply laid the Early Espresso piece on top of a piece of Gold Foil Sheet and placed it onto my card.  I gold heat embossed the label from Seasonal Bells and cut it out with the coordinating die in the Bunch of Banners Framelits.

I also took the opportunity to use up a piece of the Year of Cheer Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I'm not sure where I was going with the diagonal cut at the time but I used it in this card by simply gluing it to the Early Espresso base card.

Flourishing Thinlits in the Negative

This week I'm showing my creative process using up scraps and leftovers as I go.  Yesterday I showed you a card that featured the gorgeous Flourish thinlit so today I'm showing you what happened to the piece of Whisper White cardstock from which the flourish was cut.

When I cut the Flourish, I was moderately careful to centre the die on the scrap of cardstock I used.  I was also careful to keep all the little pieces from the die cut.

My first step today was to trim the piece of white cardstock into a suitable layer for this card.  I then adhered it to the Tranquil Tide layer which in turn was adhered to the Pool Party base card.

I then added a few of the little pieces saved from the die cutting (I certainly don't have sufficient patience to glue on all the little pieces from the leaves!).

I already had one of the little Pool Party flowers leftover from a previous card so I just cut one more and adhered them to the corners.  That step was made easy by using the Multipurpose Adhesive sheet.  You may be wondering which die I used - this is a sneak peek of the Petals & More Thinlits in the 2018 Occasions Catalogue.

I stamped the banner and word from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set and cut it out with the coordinating Duet Banner Punch.  I also punched a piece of Pool Party cardstock and added it to the back of the banner.

Here are the two Flourish cards together.  Next time (on Wednesday) I'll show you the Christmas Card I made with the Smoky slate label.

Waste not, want not!  Use the negative shape left over from die-cutting the flourish in another card!
