Continuing the theme of watercolour washes - I finally managed to achieve a lighter effect!

The colours I used for the background were Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst.  Once it was dry, I stamped the images from Awesomely Artistic in Basic Black ink.  I, very roughly, added a bit more colour to the foliage with Fresh Fig and Tranquil Tide inks.

The base card is Basic Black followed by a layer of Lemon Lime Twist, another of Basic Black followed by the Watercolour Paper.  As a last step, I added the die cut word "friend" in Berry Burst.  To obtain this die cut, I used one of the new Lovely Words thinlits and simply snipped the word from the middle.

Vintage Leaves meet Rose Wonder

This card emerged from my continued experimentation with Emboss Resist and inky layers , however, it wasn't an easy birth!  Some cards come into existence easily, gracefully and in an ordered manner - which can't be said of this one!  This card emerged, kicking and screaming, in the breach position!

Not happy with the way things were going, I kept changing plans and trying different things, so it's hard now to remember exactly what I did and in which order!

I can tell you that I started with Shimmery White cardstock.  I inked the top leaf with Versamark and Cajun Craze inks, stamped it and clear heat embossed it.  After sponging on colour, I used the Embossing Buddy and then sponged Versamark all over the leaf.  After adding the embossing powder, I cleaned away any excess from the edges of the leaf with a clean, dry paint brush then used the heat tool. 

The next step was to sponge the entire card with yellow ink - it looks to me like I may have started with a lighter yellow (maybe So Saffron or Daffodil Delight?).  I would have let the ink dry and then given it a very thorough wiping with the Embossing Buddy.

Using Versamark, Emerald Envy ink and a different leaf stamp, I then repeated the process I used for the for the first leaf - stamping, clear heat embossing, adding colour, wiping with the embossing buddy, adding versamark all over the leaf, adding embossing powder, removing excess with a paint brush, heating.   I would have done that for each leaf.

I sponged and stamped with a variety of inks and cut around the leaves before adhering the panel to a Cajun Craze card that I made to fit the panel.

I made a label with Crushed Curry card, Cajun Craze and Basic Black inks, the Rose Wonder stamp set and matching framelit and popped it up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

I spent a little bit of time looking through Rachel's blog posts and ended up with rather a long short list of projects - more of a long list than a short list!  Eventually though, this card sort of chose itself - let me explain!


A little white ago I made some watercolour backgrounds with dragonflies embossed on them.  I used the most successful one for this card and almost discarded the other because it came out looking so bland.  However, after a week of shuffling it around my desk, I decided that it could be rescued with some stamping and sponging .... and once I'd done that, I realised that my CASE for this blog hop had just chosen itself!

To rescue my bland card, I took the following steps (spread over several days due to time restraints!):

1. Stamped with Watermelon Wonder ink using the "splodges" from the stamp set and then spritzed with some water to let them blend into the background a little.
2. Let the paper dry.
3. Stamped the flowers with Cherry Cobbler ink
4. Using Cherry Cobbler ink and an Aqua Painter, added ink between the flowers in the top right corner.
5. Using Cherry Cobbler ink and an Aqua Painter, added shading around the dragonfly image
6. Let the paper dry
7. Using an almost dry brush and Cherry Cobbler ink, added colour to the centres of the flowers
8. Sponged Cherry Cobbler ink around the edges, blending towards the centre.

I stamped the greeting and label elements onto Flirty Flamingo cardstock with Cherry Cobbler ink and cut it out with the matching die from the Project Life Cards & Labels framelits.

Then I adhered the ribbon to the back of the label and stuck it to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

I think the main problem I had with the piece was that the gold dragonfly and the watercolour background were too similar in tone.  The Cherry Cobbler shading made a huge difference.

Awesomely Artistic, Watercolour Lifted, Bold Butterfly

This is my entry for this week's Global Design Project, which is a sketch challenge.  This is a very restrained card for me!

The top layer of Elegant Eggplant cardstock is popped up on dimensionals and is stamped with Versamark. The butterfly was cut out using a Bold Butterflies Framelit to reveal the pink panel below.  

To create the "pink panel", I did a watercolour wash on Whisper White cardstock using Rose Red and Wisteria Wonder inks.  I then clear heat embossed the floral stamp from Awesomely Artistic before washing away some of the ink.  I then added a very light Rose Red wash over the top to highlight the Wisteria Wonder portion of the stamping.

I created the tag by clear heat embossing the greeting onto Whisper White cardstock before stamping over it with the hessian pattern from the Awesomely Artistic stamp set in Elegant Eggplant.  I sponged on some Wisteria Wonder ink and edged the piece with Elegant Eggplant.  I cut a slightly wider strip of Wisteria Wonder cardstock and used one of the Lots of Labels framelits to shape the ends (one end at a time).

The finishing touch was to place some pink dots from the It's My Party Enamel Dots pack onto Candy Dot Brad Bases.
