Painted Poppy Black & White Variations

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #paintedpoppies #minicatalogue #cardmaking , Painted Poppies, Mini Catalogue 2020, Stampin' Up Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
A simple black & white card created with the Painted Poppies stamp set - Stampin' Up Mini Catalogue 2020
These are the variations of the Painted Poppies card I shared on Friday.  They couldn't be simpler!

I simply white heat embossed the image (twice) onto my Basic Black card and then heat embossed the greeting from Butterfly Wishes.

This Painted Poppies card is white heat embossed onto black card
and then painted with Whisper White craft ink tinted with Cherry Cobbler ink
Then, as another variation, I painted the poppies with a mix of Whisper White Craft Ink and a touch of Cherry Cobbler ink.

TIPS:
  • The craft ink is slow drying and easy to smudge so, if you're right handed, work from left to right and top to bottom when painting.
  • The tonal contrast with the black card is so great that you will get a rather translucent result.  This can be mitigated by adding more layers of ink - allowing the ink to dry between coats.
  • I found the best way to clean up the white, heat embossed lines after painting was with a cotton bud to minimise  the "halo" effect of smudged craft ink.
  • I stamped with the craft ink rather than Versamark before adding the white embossing powder.  Both work well, I just find the white easier to see.

Beautiful Day Gold & White Flower

#thecraftythinker, #stampinup #cardmaking #beautifulday, #paintingondarkcard , Beautiful Day, Painting light colours on dark card, Birthday card, Stampin up Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
A painted flower on Basic Gray cardstock makes this Beautiful Day flower pop!

Time for a little break from Christmas cards to make a birthday card for a very special friend who is also a card-maker!  This is one of those cards that's much nicer in person - it was VERY difficult to photograph as it has subtle colouring and hints of sparkly gold.

Painting light colours onto dark cardstock takes some patience but is very rewarding
It did take a lot of patience to get the look I was after.

I white heat embossed the flower onto Basic Gray cardstock and then gave it a base coat of Whisper White Craft ink.

Once that layer was dry, I mixed some Crushed Curry ink (from a refill bottle) into my palette of white craft ink to give myself a variety of shades (which don't show up in the photo!) and painted the petals one by one.

When I'd finished painting yellow, I added a touch of blue ink into the mix and painted the leaf.

Then I left it to dry for 24 hours!  Since it still felt slightly tacky, I used the heat tool on low setting to give it a final dry.

I was quite happy at that stage but the thought crossed my mind that I could bling it up a bit with some Golden Glitz ink (again from the refill bottle) and I dry-brushed some into the areas of deepest shadow.

To "ground" the flower, I used Basic Gray Stampin' Blend alcohol markers to add some shadow.

The greeting is white heat embossed.

Then I added a So Saffron layer and adhered it to the Basic Gray base card.

Magnolia Blooms All Purpose Card

This is such a quick and easy card but I think it's quite effective.  It's also suitable for just about any occasion.
#thecraftythinker #stampinup #magnoliablooms #cardmaking #heatembossing , Magnolia Blooms, Magnolia Memory dies, heat embossing, using Versamark, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
Versamark used in two different ways to create an elegant, all-purpose card with the Magnolia Blooms stamp set
I stamped randomly with Versamark all over a piece of Gray Granite card stock and then attached it to the Basic Black card front.

The larger magnolia is also stamped with versamark but this time onto a piece of black cardstock and I then heat embossed it using the new Shimmer White embossing powder before cutting the top and bottom with one of the dies in the coordinating Magnolia Memory set.

To add a little more decoration to the card, I used the flower centre dies from the same die set to cut some Gray Granite card and added some white sequins and Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

To finish the card I added some more sequins.

The Shimmer White embossing powder imparts a glittery finish which is very difficult to photograph!

To A Wild Rose on Lace 3D

This is my first use of To A Wild Rose and I was a bit hesitant before I started - I've never been very good at three step stamping.  BUT .... I needn't have worried - everything lined up really easily - it was, in fact, a breeze to use with a stunning result!
#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #toawildrose #laceembossingfolder , To A Wild Rose, Lace embossing folder, Heat Embossing, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
An elegant card made with the Lace 3D embossing folder and To A Wild Rose Bundle
What could make a gorgeous and easy to use stamp set even better? .... coordinating dies!  And the Wild Rose dies are really versatile as they include a lacy die and a gorgeous label as well as the florals.

Could things get any better? ... YES!  Buy the stamp set and dies as a bundle and get a discount of 10% !!

I used Petal Pink and Calypso Coral inks on Petal Pink cardstock for the flower and Mint Macaron and Shaded Spruce inks on Mint Macaron cardstock for the leaves.

The Lace 3D embossing folder is perfect for creating elegant backgrounds.  This time, I swiped one side of the folder with Versamark before I added the cardstock (which I had wiped with an Embossing Buddy) and then heat embossed with black embossing powder.

The sentiment is from the Magnolia Blooms stamp set and I cut it out with one of the Smooth Sailing dies.
