So Much Love for Black & Gold

Black & Gold card featuring the Parisian Flourish embossing folder & So Much Love stamp set

Well, the black and gold on Friday's card inspired me to look for some more things to do with that combination (which is one of my favourites!).

So I embossed some black cardstock with the Parisian Flourish embossing folder, first swiping the inside of the folder with Versamark ink.  After the run through the embossing machine, I added the gold embossing powder and heated it.

Then I gold heat embossed the images from the So Much Love stamp set onto a piece of black cardstock and cut it out with one of the Stitched Rectangles Dies.

I added some layers of Gold Foil Sheet and a bow of Boho Indigo Medley ribbon ... et voila!

To A Wild Rose on Lace 3D

This is my first use of To A Wild Rose and I was a bit hesitant before I started - I've never been very good at three step stamping.  BUT .... I needn't have worried - everything lined up really easily - it was, in fact, a breeze to use with a stunning result!
#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #toawildrose #laceembossingfolder , To A Wild Rose, Lace embossing folder, Heat Embossing, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
An elegant card made with the Lace 3D embossing folder and To A Wild Rose Bundle
What could make a gorgeous and easy to use stamp set even better? .... coordinating dies!  And the Wild Rose dies are really versatile as they include a lacy die and a gorgeous label as well as the florals.

Could things get any better? ... YES!  Buy the stamp set and dies as a bundle and get a discount of 10% !!

I used Petal Pink and Calypso Coral inks on Petal Pink cardstock for the flower and Mint Macaron and Shaded Spruce inks on Mint Macaron cardstock for the leaves.

The Lace 3D embossing folder is perfect for creating elegant backgrounds.  This time, I swiped one side of the folder with Versamark before I added the cardstock (which I had wiped with an Embossing Buddy) and then heat embossed with black embossing powder.

The sentiment is from the Magnolia Blooms stamp set and I cut it out with one of the Smooth Sailing dies.

Wonderful Moments Baby Shower Card

A little while ago, I made a bunch of backgrounds with Brusho and embossing folders.  This is one of them.  I've sponged a little bit of Lovely Lipstick ink over the top of the embossing since you last saw it to enhance those gorgeous dots.
#thecraftythinker #stampinup #wonderfulmoments #babyshowercard #cardmaking #brushocrystals #embossedbackground , Wonderful Moments, Baby Shower Card, Brusho Crystals, Dot To Dot embossing folder, embossing techniques, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
I used the Wonderful Moments stamp set and a brusho/embossing folder background
to make this card for a baby shower
I stamped the image with Powder Pink ink onto Petal Pink cardstock and coloured it with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.  The card is layered with Lovely Lipstick and So Saffron cardstock.

Since had no matching ribbon in my stash (I know - how is that possible!), I coloured some white ribbon.  At first I coloured it in my usual way by sitting it in a little bath of ink and water (I used So Saffron) but once it dried, I realised it wasn't the colour I wanted.  So I applied Light Lovely Lipstick with a Stampin' Blend alcohol marker.  That turned out a bit too intense, so I spritzed it with alcohol and spread the colour with my finger!  Now I'm happy!

Making the reinforced box for the cards.

BASE

  • Measure the largest item to go into the box - in this case, I measured the envelopes
  • Decide how deep you want the box to be.  In this case 1.25" deep
  • Calculate the measurements to cut the cardstock:
      Length:  Length of largest item + 4 x depth of box    For me: 6.5" + 5" = 11.5" long
      Width:   Width of largest item + 4 x depth of box      For me: 4.5" + 5" = 9.5" wide
  • Score on each side at the depth required and then again at the same distance further over.  For me that meant scoring at 1.25" and 2.5"

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #cardset #reinforced card box tutorial , Black & Gold card sets, Embossing Techniques, Reinforced Box Tutorial, Dot To Dot embossing folder, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
Once the piece is scored, cut as shown here

  • Cut 2 squares from each corner as shown above and cut along the score mark to the inner horizontal line on the remaining piece - as seen in the images above and below.

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #cardset #reinforced card box tutorial , Black & Gold card sets, Embossing Techniques, Reinforced Box Tutorial, Dot To Dot embossing folder, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
In this image, you can see how each corner is trimmed and cut to the score line ready to glue and fold

  •  Add glue as shown in the image below.

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #cardset #reinforced card box tutorial , Black & Gold card sets, Embossing Techniques, Reinforced Box Tutorial, Dot To Dot embossing folder, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
Add glue to the base as shown in this photo

  • Fold up the first side (it doesn't matter which one) so that the glue is sandwiched between the two halves of the side piece but leave the end without the scored square loose.  Later, you'll need to insert part of the adjacent side into this area before you completely glue it down.

  • Fold up the side into it's finished position, fold in the small scored square at the end to 90 degrees so that it sits on the score line for the next side.

  • Fold up the second side so that the glue AND the corner from the first piece are sandwiched between the two pieces of the second side.   Fold the small square end to 90 degrees so that it sits on the score line for the next side.

  • Repeat for the third side.

  • The last side is the slightly fiddly one.  You'll need to catch the end piece from side 3 into the fold and also insert the end from side 4 between the two halve of side 1 (that you left loose)

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #cardset #reinforced card box tutorial , Black & Gold card sets, Embossing Techniques, Reinforced Box Tutorial, Dot To Dot embossing folder, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
You will have glue in position but I didn't for the purposes of taking this photo of how to fold in the edges.

  • Once all the parts are in place, tip the box onto side 1 and use a bone folder to reinforce the folds, ensuring the glue is secure.  Repeat on all sides.

The finished box base has well-reinforced sides

LID:

  • Determine the size to cut the cardstock.  First decide how deep you require the lid (do you want any of the box base to show when the lid is in place?)
  • Length of the largest item in the box + 1/8" +  2 x depth of lid
  • For me that was:       6 5/8" + 2" = 8 5/8" long
                                   4 5/8" + 2" = 6 5/8" wide
  • Score on all four sides at the depth you require the lid - for me that was at 1"

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #cardset #reinforced card box tutorial , Black & Gold card sets, Embossing Techniques, Reinforced Box Tutorial, Dot To Dot embossing folder, Stampin' Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
The box lid is made using the same, simple method that I often employ for a box base as well

  • In each corner, cut to the score line as shown above.
  • To reduce bulk in the corner, you may wish to do as I did and cut diagonally across the resulting flap.
  • Put glue on the flaps.
  • Line up the corners, gluing the flap to the inside of the adjacent side.
