Beautiful Day Butterfly - Fun Fold Easel Card

This birthday card is for a young great-niece - I thought she'd like a colourful butterfly.

I stamped the butterfly image onto Window Sheet (acetate) with Stazon ink and then used some Stampin' Blends alcohol markers to colour it in .... on the back.  As it turned out, I decided it needed a piece of white cardstock behind the image to make it pop more and to obscure the easel fold.

To make the easel fold - I cut my base card to 11" x 5 1/2" and scored at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2".

I used the method shown at the bottom of this post to "resize" the Stitched Rectangle with the greeting.  The butterflies were cut with the Butterfly Beauty dies from Lovely Lipstick cardstock and adhered to So Saffron cardstock before trimming around the butterflies.  I find this quicker and easier than paper piecing when I'm time-poor.

I coloured Basic Rhinestone Jewels with the alcohol markers so that they would match.

I wanted to ensure that I cut identical frames for the back and front of the piece and so I used some old washi tape to keep them in the correct position, allowing for multiple identical frames to be cut.

I also made a variant of this card for a sympathy card.  This butterfly is stamped onto vellum but I still added the piece of white behind it to make it pop more.

Looking back at these photos has been really interesting.  Believe it or not, both cards were made with the same Bermuda Bay cardstock but I photographed one with my phone and the other with my Canon camera - they look quite different.  I do apologise for that!

To make the die cut narrower, I positioned the die as required and then placed the top cutting plate only over the area to be cut - as shown in the image below. TIP:  I "wiggle" the die gently until I can feel the blade of the die fitting into the die cut to match what has already been cut.

Beautiful Day Gold & White Flower

A painted flower on Basic Gray cardstock makes this Beautiful Day flower pop!

Time for a little break from Christmas cards to make a birthday card for a very special friend who is also a card-maker!  This is one of those cards that's much nicer in person - it was VERY difficult to photograph as it has subtle colouring and hints of sparkly gold.

Painting light colours onto dark cardstock takes some patience but is very rewarding

It did take a lot of patience to get the look I was after.

I white heat embossed the flower onto Basic Gray cardstock and then gave it a base coat of Whisper White Craft ink.

Once that layer was dry, I mixed some Crushed Curry ink (from a refill bottle) into my palette of white craft ink to give myself a variety of shades (which don't show up in the photo!) and painted the petals one by one.

When I'd finished painting yellow, I added a touch of blue ink into the mix and painted the leaf.

Then I left it to dry for 24 hours!  Since it still felt slightly tacky, I used the heat tool on low setting to give it a final dry.

I was quite happy at that stage but the thought crossed my mind that I could bling it up a bit with some Golden Glitz ink (again from the refill bottle) and I dry-brushed some into the areas of deepest shadow.

To "ground" the flower, I used Basic Gray Stampin' Blend alcohol markers to add some shadow.

The greeting is white heat embossed.

Then I added a So Saffron layer and adhered it to the Basic Gray base card.

and a gold-infused watercolour background

This card uses another of the Golden Glitz infused watercolour backgrounds that I made a little while ago.  This one has a base of Gray Granite cardstock.

I've also used the same methodology as I did for this card but using the butterfly image instead of the flower.  The little gold butterflies in the background are stamped with the Butterfly Gala stamp set.

To my Blackberry Bliss base card, I added a layer of So Saffron cardstock followed by the decorative panel.

Beautiful Day For A Golden Rose

This card is gloriously rich in gold!

This card makes me so happy that it was hard to give it away!  It uses another of the watercolour backgrounds with Golden Glitz that I made recently.  This one used Blushing Bride cardstock.

Once the background was very dry, I gave it a wipe with my Embossing Buddy and then gold heat embossed the flower from the Beautiful Day stamp set.

I painted the flower with Real Red, Garden Green and Blackberry Bliss inks and then added highlights with Golden Glitz metallic ink.  I squeezed some of the gold ink onto a block so that I could paint it onto the edges of the petals quite thickly and then softly blend it back towards the inner part of the petal.

I added a shadow under the flower with Garden Green ink.

Then I decided that the background was just a little too plain, so I stamped on some foliage from the Botanical Bliss stamp set with Golden Glitz metallic ink.

The greeting is also from the Botanical Bliss stamp set and I gold heat embossed it onto Blackberry Bliss card before cutting it out with one of the dies in the Beautiful Boughs die set.  I sponged some more of the Golden Glitz metallic ink around the edge before attaching it to the card front.
