Wildly Happy Elephant - A Baby Card

The Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper is so versatile - it's not just for Christmas!

A baby card featuring the elephants from the Wildly Happy stamp set and Brightly Gleaming paper

This sweet little card is to celebrate the birth of a friend's first grandchild - very exciting!  I chose to use the elephants from the Wildly Happy stamp set because the family are originally from South Africa and they have an African theme in the nursery.  It also goes with the elephant print cot sheets that we gifted.

I stamped the elephants with Tuxedo Black Memento ink and coloured the scene with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.

I shortened the Stitched Shape Rectangle using this method.

Baby Bear in Velvet

It's really too bad that you can't feel the texture of this Baby Bear - so soft and velvety!

A velvety Baby Bear!

I just received my order of White Velvet Paper and set about experimenting to see what I could do with it other than cut snow scenes or snowflakes.  The White Velvet Paper will be available for purchase from 1-30 November only.

Baby Bear is a 3-step stamp - three images that work together to create beautiful depth and shading.  I stamped directly onto the Velvet Sheet using Crumb Cake for the first two layers and Soft Suede for the last - bearing (sorry!) in mind that I work from the most basic image to the most detailed one.
TIP: Patience may be required to allow the ink to dry.... although, since I lack patience, I used my heat tool to hasten the process!

I simply cut him out and adhered him to my card with a jaunty little ribbon.  I haven't added a sentiment because it remains to be seen whether he will be a child's birthday card or to celebrate the birth of a new baby.

I went on to experiment with heat embossing and colouring with alcohol markers and I'll be sharing those cards in early December.

Sweet Little Something & Baby Bear

I discovered two uncomfortable truths whilst I was making this card.  Firstly, I'm not fond of making baby cards and secondly, I really suck at lining up three step stamps!

I'm so in awe of all those people who seem to do it so effortlessly!

The baby won't know it's not perfect!

In my mind it was all so serene!  I would stamp the rabbit first, mask it and then stamp the bear.  Hah!  After the third attempt, I decided to scrap the masking idea and make the animals individually then glue them into position.  Hah!

The three step stampin process and I really don't get along well, even with the use of my trusty Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to which I eventually resorted!  I still wasn't happy with the sixth attempts but by that time I was mentally and emotionally exhausted - so I'm afraid I decided that close enough was as good as it was going to get!

So, I present slightly imperfect soft toys and a card that wasn't quite as I envisaged it!

One Wild Ride Baby Card

My niece and her husband have just added a baby daughter to their family and I wanted to make a baby card that would resonate with them.

I really love the new Berry Burst colour!

When my niece's husband first joined the family he rode a motorbike that he loved but he gave it up in order to buy a car suitable for their growing family.

So, while a little unorthodox, this card is an acknowledgement of his sacrifice.  I also like the sentiment very much.

The patterned paper is in the new In-Colour, Berry Burst, from the new Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack.  The card is an A5 piece of Berry Burst cardstock folded in half.

I used a Basic Black and Berry Burst Stampin' Write Marker to ink the sentiment stamp and then fussy cut it.

Little Cuties Rocking Horse

The other day I had a collection of products on my table that I hadn't yet used.  I looked at the rocking horse in the Little Cuties stamp set (specifically the tail) while I was holding the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit in my hand.  I looked at the tail again and back to the Mini Tassels and knew exactly what I needed to do!

I first cut my layers to size and then stamped the rocking horse onto my Very Vanilla panel with Basic Black ink.  I then used Watercolour Pencils (Basic Gray, Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay and Early Espresso) and an aqua painter to colour the image.

My next step was to cut around the curve of the horse's rear end (ouch!) with a sharp craft knife so that I could slip the link end of the tassel through the resulting slit and secure it to the reverse of the card (the backside lol!).  I then lifted up the tassel and spread some Multi-Purpose glue in the tail area before arranging the tassel into the shape I wanted for the tail.

I adhered my layers together, attaching the stamped layer with dimensionals to make sufficient room for the bulk of the end of the tassel.

The greeting is from the Mixed Borders stamp set, stamped in Basic Black onto one of the Very Vanilla and gold foil labels from the embellishment kit.  I glued the label to the front of the card and added one of the little Pool Party bows from the kit before finishing off with a scattering of gold and iridescent vanilla sequins from the kit.
