I really love this card of Sarah's: the bright pop of colours behind the black silhouettes, the layout, the touch of gold!

I also saw it as an opportunity to use another watercolour background that's been kicking around in my craft room for months!

The main colours are Gorgeous Grape and Grapefruit Grove

So I cut the owl from Basic Black cardstock as well as the branch from the Seasonal Layers die set.  There is a beautiful branch in the Night Owl die set but this one suits my layout better.

I used one of the Timeless Textures stamps and Bright Copper Shimmer Paint to stamp the corners of the Gorgeous Grape layer and then added some splatters of the same Shimmer Paint.

Once I'd finished the card, I wished I used the Nature's Twine instead of the Grosgrain Ribbon but, although I tried, it was too difficult to make the change - oh well!

Wild About You My Darling

Stampin' Up! very generously gave all of us who attended the On Stage event in Sydney in April a copy of the Animal Outing stamp set.  Naturally, I was very grateful for the gift, however, I didn't immediately like the set and it's been languishing on my shelf ever since.

However, today it caught my eye while I was in search of appropriate images for a child's birthday card (which I'll be sharing on 30 September) and one thing led to another.  I think this one is going to be a light-hearted Fathers' Day card for my wonderful husband!  He's been supporting my latest attempt at dieting - so he can probably relate to the leaf-eating giraffe!

Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop: Theme - 2018 Holiday Catalogue Sneak Peek

Welcome to the monthly Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop.  This month we are providing sneak peeks from the amazing new Holiday Catalogue that runs from 5 September 2018 to 2 January 2019.

Shimmer Paint adds beautiful glowing richness to a project and the Still Night Bundle is stunning!

The owl and greeting are from the Still Night stamp set.  The owl is stamped with Bright Copper Shimmer Paint (another new product in the Holiday Catalogue).  Please see this previous card for more details.

The owl, the Copper Foil Sheet branch and the greeting are all cut with the coordinating Night Owl Thinlit Dies.  TIP:  The stamp set and dies are available as a bundle for a 10% saving).

For the background, I embossed a piece of Merry Merlot cardstock with the new Tin Tile Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I then used a Sponge Brayer to add some highlights with the Vegas Gold and Bright Copper Shimmer Paints.

The new Reversible Ribbon is beautiful: coppery on one side and Merry Merlot on the other.

If you pop over to Alison's blog (as I hope you will), you're in for a treat ... it's chock full of beautiful and inspiring projects!  To the left you'll see the card of Alison's that I chose to CASE.  I love the layout, the minimal colour scheme, strip of embossing and overall clean simplicity.

So, this is what I've done with it!  It will be for a dear friend who adores owls - either for Christmas or her birthday.   It was difficult to capture the depth of the embossing and the beautiful coppery glow in the photograph!

The owl (from the Still Night stamp set) is stamped with Bright Copper Shimmer Paint

The first obvious difference is that I have used the Layered Leaves Dynamic embossing folder on a separate strip of the Granite Gray cardstock for those goregous textured leaves.

I decided to experiment a bit with the Shimmer Paint and sponged some of the Bright Copper onto the stamp with a Sponge Brayer.  I was really pleased with the effect.  It's a water-based paint and so rinses off very easily.  I'll be sharing more results of my experimentation in future posts.

I cut the owl and the branch with the coordinating Night Owl Thinlit Dies (available with the stamp set as a bundle with a saving of 10%) and I sponged the branch with some Gray Granite ink to darken it just a little so that it would show up against the background.

The beautiful owl may be either a birthday card or a Christmas card
