Special Reason Dragonfly

I made a few inky backgrounds the other day (I like to do messy things like that in batches!) and used one of them for this card.

Copper makes everything "special" as well as warm and inviting!

Having cut my piece of Shimmery White cardstock to the size I wanted, the first thing I did was to Copper heat emboss the dragonfly image.

Then, to make the background I used Peekaboo Peach and Watermelon Wonder ink pads, a water spritzer, plastic bag and waterproof craft mat.

I basically used the plastic bag smooshing method of applying ink to wet cardstock (wet the cardstock, pat the ink pad down on the plastic bag to transfer ink, smoosh inky bag onto wet cardstock) but, not quite happy with my result, I also patted some ink down onto the craft mat, spritzed it with some water and tapped the cardstock into it.

Once it was all dry, I layered up the cardstock and added the remaining elements. I cut flowers with the Stylish Stems small flower framelits - one in Watermelon Wonder and two in Cherry Cobbler. Having adhered them into place, I cut just the petals in Peekaboo Peach cardstock and glued them into position in the Watermelon Wonder flower.

I then partially cut three more flowers with Copper Sheet. The centres were adhered into the three flowers and I sprinkled some of the petals around the dragonfly. I'm so proud of myself for achieving "random"!!

I copper heat embossed the banner and sentiment before cutting out the banner with the matching die from the Bunch of Banners framelits.

To finish the inside of the card, I stamped flowers from the Special Reason set in one corner using Peekaboo Peach, Watermelon Wonder and Wild Wasabi inks.

Hot Glue with Copper - Hot Glue Embossing

I saw Connie MacFarlane's tutorial for this technique at Splitcoaststampers and completely fell in love with it. This is my first attempt and more-or-less a CASE of Connie's card except that I turned it upside down and added my colours in blocks.

I'm going to have to get some more copper embossing powder!

While I had the glue gun hot, I attempted some more mini artworks. None of them were anything like as good as Connie's but still manage to have their own unique appeal. I'll show them to you by and by.

Lovely As A Copper Tree

This masculine card is for a friend of ours who loves nature and has a beautiful garden. Unfortunately, I struggled with the photography with the gorgeous copper shine and I have to say that the card is much more handsome in person!

All things copper - foil sheet, embossing powder & metallic thread

My all-time favourite stamp from Lovely As A Tree is heat embossed with the gorgeous copper embossing powder. I filled the foreground by wrapping Copper Metallic Thread around the card many times. I stamped the leaf image onto Copper Foil Sheet with Stazon ink. The banner is from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set and is stamped in Basic Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock (although it has come out looking a bit white in the photo).

Helping me Grow - Bleached Copper

I already had Elegant Eggplant cardstock and copper embossing powder out on my work table, so I decided to use them with the Helping Me Grow stamp set for this card.

Helping Me Grow Stamp set meets copper and bleach!

There are so many images I like in this 15stamp set (yes - 15!). I love the floral images (it was hard for me to choose between this one and the other floral image (I'm not going to show my botanical ignorance by trying to name the flower!) but I was also really attracted to the versatility of the label outline (that coordinates with the die in the Rose Garden Thinlits set) and the artistic little corners and useful greetings.

I heat embossed the floral image onto Elegant Eggplant cardstock with copper embossing powder. Then I applied bleach, with a fine but not greatly valued brush, to the petals and stalks. I applied more bleach to some areas than others to add some dimension to the image. The areas with more bleach now look pink.

Once the bleach was dry, I used an Early Espresso Stampin' Write marker to shade the stems and the centres of some petals.

I also copper heat embossed two of the corners. I didn't use any bleach on these but added some of the Early Espresso with the marker just towards the right angle.

I put the label image onto my acrylic block and could fit the word stamp into the middle, so I knew it was centred and it needed only one step to stamp both the outline and the sentiment with Versamark onto Tip Top Taupe cardstock. I then heat embossed with copper embossing powder and cut out the label with the matching thinlit from the Rose Garden set.

The card base is Elegant Eggplant, layered with Perfect Plum and Tip Top Taupe, then the decorated panel.
