Crafting Forever with a Painters Palette

One of our team members is leaving to become a teachers aid so I was wracking my brains (such as they are!) to come up with something suitable.  I thought about how much fun children have with brushes and paint and came up with this.

Brushes, paint and a canvas on an easel - what more could anybody want?!

I'm pretty sure the craft knife is out of place and I did consider trying to add some bristles to turn it into another brush - but I thought I might make a mess of it and I was half way through colouring!  Sshhh - maybe nobody will notice!

I coloured the pot of brushes with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.  I stamped the frame with Soft Suede ink and then added some definition with an Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker

Painting the world better

My lovely friend, Frances, lives interstate and I don't get to see her very often but I think of her frequently and decided to let her know that with a card.

A universe of colour and paint strokes and a canvas of a beautiful lady

Frances is an artist as well as a humanitarian who loves and cares for people  She's an inspirational person who I admire very much and this card is about her so I had to use her favourite colour: purple!  There is also a hint of Fresh Fig (one of the new In-Colours for 2017-2019) in the darker areas.

The greeting is a sneak peek of the new stamp set "Just Add Text" available from 1st June 2017

I really wish there were more people like Frances.  She makes the world more beautiful and tries to heal it with not just with her art but also with her warm, compassionate and inclusive spirit.

A Paisley expression of love

I used the Paisleys & Posies stamp set to create the background but stamped more of the paisleys and less of the posies for a masculine look.  I stamped with Basic Black ink and coloured with a Real Red Stampin' Write Marker.

The greeting is from the Painter's Palette stamp set and I cut it out with one of the oval Stitched Shapes framelits which I layered on top of one of the scalloped Layered Ovals framelits.

The Basic Black Stitched Satin Ribbon and Real Red Cotton Ribbon are both from my stash of retired ribbon - for which I apologise but they were the only ones I had that did the job for this card.

Mondrian inspired card set

This project is entered into this week's Crazy Crafters Project Highlights.  Click here to see the other great projects and vote for your favourites.

I was first introduced to the work of Piet Mondrian while studying History of Art .... a long time ago now!  It had immediate appeal for me which has grown, rather than diminished, with the years.

In making a set of cards as a gift, I turned to Mondrian for inspiration ... and I think he came up trumps!

 

I started out with Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow (he painted it in 1930 but it's still fresh and appealing today) because there were more bold blocks of colour than lines.  I added a couple of stamped greetings because the large blocks seemed to require it.

I then felt ready to try my hand at some of the more intricate pieces, starting with 

Composition with Red, Yellow, Blue and Black (one of his 1921 pieces). 

I first cut and positioned the black horizontal and vertical lines then added the rectangles of colour

To suit the medium of cardmaking and my abilities, I had to make some adjustments to the designs but I hope I have managed to maintain the balance that is so important in his designs.

The next card is based on Mondrian's Composition with Red, Yellow and Blue (painted in 1921)

I cut and glued the lines first then trimmed and adhered the coloured cardstock

All of this was inevitably and inexorably leading me back to present day Stampin' Up! and the wonderful new Swirly Scribbles thinlits!  

The Swirly Scribbles thinlits are perfect for a Mondrian inspired design

 

I cut the Swirly Scribbles several times in Basic Black and adhered them to a piece of Whisper White cardstock in a design that I found pleasing.  Then I used the same die with Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point cardstock.  After adhering the pieces that I wanted to complete my design, I kept the rest for later projects.

I like the card case so much, I'm going to make a card version of it!

I used the easel and greeting from the Painter's Palette stamp set to cover the join in the Swirly Scribbles!
