Swirly Bird card in a box

I recently received a commission for a First Holy Communion card with a very specific set of requirements. The card was to include the words "Grandson" and his full name, the words First Holy Communion, date and details of the church. The colours were to be light blue and white with gold trim, it was to be a card in a box and decorations could be sheep, angels, candles, cross, balloons.

Since I had no suitable DSP, the first task was to create some! I used the Swirly Birds and Floral Phrases stamp sets with Marina Mist ink, Versamark and gold embossing powder.

It's so easy to create a repeat pattern with this stamp in the Floral Phrases set

Given the shapes of the decorations, I decided to make an oblong box card and rather than reinvent the wheel, I used the very easy to follow template that I found here on Di Barnes' blog.

I was so happy with my Swirly Bird pattern, I didn't want to cover it!

I created the cross with one of the dies in the Wonderful Wreath Framelits set. The balloons are punched out of Gold Foil Sheeet and embossed with the Softly Falling embossing folder. I used one of the Layering Oval Framelits and one of the dies from the Project Life Cards & Labels set to cut out the printed panels, then edged them with gold using a Wink of Stella pen.

I decided to keep the box uncluttered because I didn't want to detract from the Swirly Birds pattern that I liked so much I didn't want to cover up! I did, however, give it a thin border of Gold Foil.

First Sight of Copper Botanicals

Inspiration can be such a strange thing - when and how it strikes and what prompts it.

At Christmas I was fortunate enough to win a raffle - the prize being a hot stone massage - how lucky was I! It's taken me half a year - but I finally managed to squeek it in just before the gift token expired!

I sat in the very elegant waiting room, enjoying the tranquility, aromas and style and then my gaze fell on a beautiful, sleek copper water pitcher sitting on a timber table in front of the Aubergine coloured wall and inspiration started to tickle my brain. Then I noticed the elegant taupe curtains and the aubergine and taupe chairs and the copper colour repeated in the paintings on the wall.

At that point I'm afraid I broke the serenity by feverishly rummaging through my bag looking for my note pad and pen to write down: Elegant Eggplant, Tip Top Taupe, Copper.

Inspired by the decor at a local beauty spa!

So I've added a layer of Chocolate Chip behind the Elegant Eggplant and the base card is Early Espresso.

I stamped the flourish from First Sight onto the Elegant Eggplant layer with Versamark and heat embossed it with copper embossing powder. I left the lower right quandrant free to try to give more impact to the flowers.

The greeting from First Sight is stamped in Basic Black onto Perfect Plum and cut with a die from the Project Life Cards & Labels framelits - I just resized it and then did the same thing with a piece of Early Espresso to put underneath. I popped this little "banner" up on dimensionals and offset it a little on the card for a bit more interest.

To make the copper flowers, I grabbed a piece of retired cardstock (colour unimportant) and gave it a good coat of versamark. I then gave it a good sprinkle of copper embossing powder and used the heat tool. After giving it a minute to cool, I ran it through the Big Shot with the Botanical Builder framelits. I then shaped the flowers with a bone folder and ball tool on a piece of foam. I cut centres from Elegant Eggplant and a little black to contrast with the copper.

I added plain Rhinestone jewels to the larger flowers and for the smaller flowers, I coloured the rhinestones with a black sharpie before I put them into the centre of the flowers.

Timelessly Elegant Birthday Blooms

I've been using yellow and grey in combination a lot recently - one of my favourite combo's!

I had a lot of fun with this card!

I used my "monochrome technique" but applied it to cardstock in a contrasting colour. The Crushed Curry cardstock shows through the ink in places to form part of the flower colour.

The inks are Basic Gray and Whisper White Craft. Given that the Basic Gray is an archival ink (and the water-resistant properties of archival inks), I wasn't sure that I'd be able to paint with it but it seems to have worked.

I thought the Timeless Elegance DSP tied in very well with the feature flower. In addition to the Crushed Curry, I used Smoky Slate and Basic Grey cardstock.

The greeting is from the Sheltering Tree stamp set. I attached It's My Party Enamel Dots to Candy Dot Brad bases for the finishing touch.

My fun fold card inspired by Patty

She has very generously provided tutorials and videos on how to do this fold here. I did change the dimensions just a little to suit the A4 cardstock.

This is my version. I used Bermuda Bay and Black cardstock to make the fun fold card and decorated it with a selection of papers from the Bohemian Designer Series Paper. I cut circles from Rich Razzleberry and Blackberry Bliss cardstock and topped them with a Blackberry Bliss, Bermuda Bay and Delightful Dijon flower. The flowers were all cut with the gorgeous Botanical Builder Framelit dies.

I stamped a greeting from the Birthday Blooms stamp set and cut it out with one of the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits.

I removed a few sequins from the Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim and used them to highlight the large flower and the greeting.

Then I added a few Rhinestone Jewels for a bit of sparkle.

The inside of the card hides a little surprise. There's another flower made with the Botanical Builder dies and some matching flowers stamped with the Botanical Blooms Stamp set.

The greeting is from Happy Birthday, Everyone.
