A great card for using up little pieces of card!

Sale-A-Bration is drawing to a close so I thought it was about time that I used this stamp!  

I wasn't sure what colours to use so I turned to the Botanical Gardens paper for inspiration and grabbed my Many Marvellous Markers to ink the stamp in Mint Macaron, Hello Honey and Cajun Craze.  

I cut some flowers in the same colours with the Botanical Builder framelits and one of the ferns from the same set in Mossy Meadow.  I used black candy dots as flower centres and layered everything on to Cajun Craze and Mint Macaron card.  

I added in a couple of yellow candy dots for good measure!

Such an easy but bright and cheerful card.

Honeycomb Happiness - Birthday Bird

 I have entered this card into this week's Crazy Crafters Team Project Highlight.  To vote for it or any of the other beautiful projects, click on the heading above.

This card is for a sweet young lady

I love this cheeky little fellow!  He's so much fun to colour.  With the colours I've chosen, though, perhaps it should be a female bird!  She's only available in Sale-A-Bration (until 31st March) free with a purchase of $90.

I stamped the bird with Archival Basic Black ink onto Shimmery White cardstock.  I masked her and stamped the balloon so that she's holding the balloon string under her wing.

My next step was to cut out the image using one of the Lots of Labels framelits, then I set about watercolouring her.

I gave her an all over pale coating of  Blushing Bride then I used Elegant Eggplant on her body, working from the edges towards the centre, keeping the brush moving to prevent hard lines.  Then I added some more Blushing Bride to the chest and around the eyes and beak.  I added just a hint of Rose Red to the wings, tail and to define where the head feathers meet the chest.  Her beak and feet are Pumpkin Pie with a touch of Cajun Craze for shadows.

I then turned my attention to the balloon, for which I used Elegant Eggplant ink.  I gave it an all over light coat and then built up the depth of colour at the bottom and sides to add dimension.  For the ribbon I used Blushing Bride and just a hint of Rose Red.

At this point the bird was floating in mid-air (seemingly without the use of its wings!), so I added some ground for it with Sahara Sand ink.

I stamped the greeting on a little piece of Shimmery White card and punched it out with the Large Oval punch.  Then I edged both pieces with Wisteria Wonder ink.

I gave the balloon and the greeting a coating of Wink of Stella for some extra shimmer.

Wink of Stella is so pretty and so hard to photograph!  I ended up putting it under a light!

I embossed a piece of Elegant Eggplant cardstock with the Elegant Dots embossing folder and layered in onto Blushing Bride then another layer of Elegant Eggplant before adhering it all to the Wisteria Wonder card.

I used the Triple Banner Punch on some little pieces of Wisteria Wonder and Blushing Bride cardstock and slipped them behind the main image, finishing off with some Elegant Eggplant Candy Dots.

What I Love

Mistakes and accidents happen  but can be disguised

This card took on a life of its own!

I had intended it to be a simple one layer sponged strip with the greeting, however, as I was sponging - my masks moved!

To cover up my mistake (once I'd stopped chastising myself!), I stamped more of the flowers onto Crushed Curry cardstock with black ink and cut them out.  Then I carefully arranged them to hide the worst of the problem!

The colours I used are Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze.  The greeting is from One Big Meaning and the flowers are from the Sale-A-Bration set called What I love (free with any purchase of $90).

I used Shimmery White cardstock for the card because I like it for sponging and watercolouring and it also has a good weight for a single layer card.

A Grateful Bunch of What I Love

The Wink of Stella doesn't show up well in the photo but in reality it adds a very pretty element to the card

This bright and cheery card features the Grateful Bunch bundle and also one of the Sale-A-Bration stamp sets called What I Love.

The What I Love set is FREE until 31st March with any purchase of $90 and is a three part stamp. However, on this card I chose to only use one of the images (the other two add shading and depth).

I stamped the image three times onto a piece of vellum with Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  Then I added the greeting from Another Thank You in a similar way.

I put adhesive around the edges of the vellum and stuck it to the front of my Calypso Coral card.  Then I hid the adhesive (that shows through the vellum) with some Calypso Coral ribbon from my stash (now retired sadly).

I stamped the images from Grateful Bunch in Versamark on Calypso Coral cardstock and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  I punched out the smaller flowers with the matching Blossom Bunch Punch and hand cut the larger flower.  I also white heat embossed a flower from the What I Love set and cut it out.

I assembled and adhered all the flowers to the front of the card and then added Gold Wink of Stella to the centre of one flower and Rhinestone Jewels to the others.  All the flowers received a coating of Clear Wink of Stella - even the vellum ones.

Sky is the limit on Going Places

With very little time available, I needed a masculine birthday card.  What better than a combination of Going Places Designer Series Paper and the FREE Sale-A-Bration Sky Is The Limit stamp set?

A quick and easy masculine card

It's much too fiddly to attempt to cut out all the little struts etc between the wings, so I watercoloured with a little Sahara Sand to blend it in with the Map in the background.  I really seem to be into the colour yellow at the moment, so I coloured the body of the aircraft Crushed Curry with a silver (Smoky Slate) nose cone.  I used my Many Marvellous Markers to colour the aircraft.

Then all it needed was a quick layer of Basic Black and some Crushed Curry cardstock.

I used the Basic Black Satin Stitched Ribbon and added a piece of Crushed Curry ribbon. f

All done!

It brings back happy memories for me of watching my good friend in the UK enjoying a flying experience in a bright yellow tiger moth!

Flowering Fields Layered Card

This is a feminine and pretty birthday card for a feminine and pretty lady.

The ribbon is retired Hello Honey Stitched Satin

The layers are created with FREE Sale-A-Bration Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper and Basic Black cardstock.

I chose Thick Whisper White cardstock for the base because I like its strength for that purpose.

The stamp set is FREE in Sale-A-Bration and is called Flowering Fields. It's so versatile because you can use the flowers individually or together; in a row or as a bunch; coloured or uncoloured.

I stamped onto a small piece of whisper white cardstock and added colour with my much loved Many Marvellous Markers.  I stamped the pink flower first and masked just the flower (way too fiddly to mask all those little leaves!).  Then I stamped the yellow flower three times.

The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Sentiments and the banner is from Bloomin' Love cut with one of the Large Numbers Framelits dies.  I sponged the edges and ends with a little Hello Honey to provide a bit of dimension.

Grateful Bunch Shaker Card

The Memories in the Making Project Lift Specialty Card Collection (FREE in Sale-A-Bration) is beautiful - it is a combination of resist cards and metallic printed acetate cards.  I decided to use one of the printed acetate 4"x6" cards in a shaker card.

The base card is Lost Lagoon and the stamped layer is Pool Party.  There's a very small edge of Blackberry Bliss framing the gold-printed acetate.

I stamped the flowers with Blackberry bliss onto Perfect Plum cardstock and watercoloured them with Lost Lagoon.  The largest flower has a centre of gold Wink of Stella and the others have a sequin centred with a Rhinestone Jewel.

I stamped the leaves from the Grateful Bunch set with Versamark onto the Pool Party layer to create a very subtle background and the greeting from Happy Birthday Everyone is stamped with Archival Black ink.

The two gold sequins are from the Metallics Sequin Assortment and the others are from the Brights Sequin Assortment.

A few sequins adhered to the top of the card with the Fine Tip Glue Pen "blend" the inside and outside of the shaker.

Number of Years - 40th Birthday card

I wanted to make a special card to celebrate my nephew's 40th birthday (how can that even be possible?!!). so I turned to Number of Years and Going Places.

I cut Sahara Sand cardstock to 12" x 6" and then scored and folded the long side at 4" and 8" to create a triple flap card (perhaps it has a proper name?).

The numbers and stamps are from the Number of Years bundle.

The front of card has the restrained, masculine look to it that I was looking for and it's mostly about the gorgeous Designer Series Paper - Going Places.

No, my nephew isn't an alien!  I distorted the photo since I haven't asked permission to show his image.

As the card open, it gets more interesting.  The photo I found of my nephew was taken on a boat, so the nautical papers in the DSP were a perfect match.  I was tempted to leave the side panels unstamped but eventually added "Hello birthday boy" from the Sale-A-Bration set Hello.

The birthday greeting is from the fabulous Happy Birthday Everyone set

I balanced things out a bit with the compass design from the Going Global stamp set.

The colours are: Sahara Sand, Lost Lagoon and black.

A Grateful Bunch of Flowering Fields - Side Step card

 I love to create a special birthday card individually for each person but sometimes a birthday sneaks up on me and I need a card in a hurry!

To be prepared for those occasions, I keep a little stash of cards to suit all occasions that I can dip into when necessary.

This card is destined for the stash!

I somehow ended up with 2 rolls of this Lost Lagoon ribbon - so I'm slowly using it up!

It's actually one of several side-step cards that I've created as a sample for class in a couple of weeks.  I'd be completely lost without my Stampin' Trimmer - especially when it comes to making fun fold cards!

I used the Grateful Bunch bundle from the Occasions Catalogue and the FREE Sale-A-Bration Flowering Fields stamp set.

The inks are Lost Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss and can you spot the gold Wink of Stella?

Some Lost Lagoon ribbon and Basic Rhinestone jewels provide the finishing touches.

I hand cut the largest flower but the others are punched out with the matching Blossom Bunch Punch.  All the flowers and leaves were watercoloured with either Lost Lagoon or Blackberry Bliss ink.

The birthday greeting is from the Teeny Tiny Sentiments stamp set.

Side step cards are so easy to make and wonderfully versatile!

DIMENSIONS:

Cardstock 14cm x 21cm

4cm in from the long edge cut from 2.5cm to 16.5cm (ie a 14cm cut)

Working along the long side, score between the cut and the closest edge - starting at the beginning of the cut at 2.5cm, then at 5cm, 8cm, 11cm and 16cm.

Layers:

Focal Panel: 1st layer; 9.8cm x 7.8cm    2nd layer; 9.4cm x 7.4cm

Tall Side Panel: 1st layer; 9cm x 3.8cm   2nd layer; 8.8cm x 3.6cm

Middle Side Panel: 1st layer; 4.5cm x 3.8cm  2nd layer; 4.3cm x 3.6cm

The Sky is the limit for World Traveler & Traveler!

 Today I was making more samples for my 9 week semester of classes (starting 2 February).

This card featuring the World Traveler embossing folder with the ship from the Traveler stamp set, is for the class about the Letterpress technique.

I liked the combination so much that I decided to pair the World Traveler embossing folder with some other modes of transport!  Since the others were land-based,though, I decided to emphasise the land masses on the globe rather than the sea.

The birthday greeting on all of the cards is from the Sky Is The Limit stamp set which can't be purchased because it's one of the wonderful FREE products that are exclusive to Sale-A-Bration - for every $90 of product you buy, you can choose one FREE product from the Sale-A-Bration catalogue.

The train is from the Traveler stamp set

The label for the greeting is cut with the Project Life Cards & Labels framelits.

The aircraft is popped up on dimensionals as are the front of the ship and the front of the train.

I like this embossing folder so much that I can forgive its geographical inaccuracy!
