Urban Underground Blue Flower

Last week I had the urge to use some white ink on black paper, which has evolved into the card I'm sharing with you today.

This time I stamped in Whisper White Craft ink onto Basic Gray cardstock.  I then followed the same steps as before before adding colour with the Pacific Point and Old Olive watercolour pencils.  I pulled the colour out towards and blending into the white, adding stronger darks with small pencil lines where necessary (mainly around the centre of the flower and leaf stems.

The greeting is from the Blooms & Wishes stamp set and I have heat embossed it in white to make it stand out.

The black card is layered with a sheet from the Urban Underground pack (my favourite at present!), some Whisper White and some Silver Foil Sheet (which looks grey in the photo!).

The inside of the card is simple but matches the front

I kept the inside of the card simple again, just stamping the flower and leaves in the corner with Basic Black ink.

Urban Underground Black & White Flower

For some inexplicable reason, I had an urge to do something in black and white but I didn't have a lot of time available!  So I grabbed the Birthday Blossoms stamp set, Whisper White Craft Ink and the white pencil from the box of watercolour pencils.

The flower was a test piece that found its way onto the front of a card!

I stamped the flower and leaves in the white craft ink and allowed it to dry (very important step which I speeded up with my heat tool!).  Using a soft, circular motion with the white watercolour pencil, I added white to the areas I wanted to be the lightest.  

Since I wanted to maintain a lot of control this time, I used a small brush and a little bit of water rather than my trusty aqua painter.  I kept the brush just damp and pulled the white down towards the darker areas.  Once I'd finished doing that, I checked the tones and added a few highlights with the watercolour pencil where I felt it necessary (mainly around the centre of the flower).  I didn't (and don't) feel it's quite right but I couldn't spend any more time and I think it's sufficient.

I added a layer of Urban Underground paper to my black card and adhered my flower panel to the centre.  

Next, I stamped the banner from Banners For You in Basic Black ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock and added the greeting from the hostess stamp set, Gift of Love.  I cut it out with the matching Bunch of Banners framelit and adhered it to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Inside the card I quickly stamped the flower and leaves in one corner with Basic Black ink.

Birthday Blossoms for GDP#025

It's a colour challenge this week and it just happens to be one of my favourite colour combinations - how could I not enter?!!  If you'd like to enter too, or just look at all the lovely entries - simply click on the challenge image.

The flowers are watercoloured onto Smoky Slate cardstock

And this is my entry.

I stamped images from the Birthday Blossoms stamp set onto the top layer of Smoky Slate cardstock using a mix of Smoky Slate and Basic Gray inks.  There was a little bit of masking involved for the three flowers and the the leaves.

I painted the three large flowers and the leaves using Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Daffodil Delight inks.  I wanted them to "pop" as much as possible so I kept the contrasts as strong as possible.

I wanted the small blossoms to pretty much disappear into the background, so I painted them very lightly and minimised the contrasts.  Once I'd finished painting, I masked the large flowers and leaves again and then sponged with Smoky Slate ink.

I cut a Daffodil Delight banner and stamped a greeting from Teeny Tiny Sentiments then sponged the ends with Basic Gray ink.

Kissing the Botanical Builder

It's never nice to make a sympathy card but, sadly, it's something that we need to do from time to time.

The flowers have quite a lot of depth.

I was demonstrating thekissing technique (pertaining only to stamping!) to my class this week and came home with the Everything Eleanor panel.  I decided to put it to good use in this card for a colleague who has suffered a bereavement.

I inked up the label image from Everything Eleanor with Smoky Slate ink and the floral image from Birthday Blossoms with Blackberry Bliss.  Then I kissed the floral stamp against the plain stamp.  The now patterned plain stamp was now ready to stamp onto Whisper White cardstock and afterwards I cut it out.

Using a bone folder, Simply Scored Stylus and Stampin Pierce Mat gives great depth to the flowers

I cut flowers and leaves with the Botanical Builders framelits from a Blackberry Bliss, Smoky Slate and Basic Grey cardstock.

I stamped the banner from Bloomin' Love in Blackberry Bliss onto Whisper White cardstock and then added the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments in Basic Grey before cutting it out with the Large Numbers framelits.

I layered Smoky Slate cardstock onto the Blackberry Bliss card followed by the Perfect Plum panel which I had embossed with the Elegant Dots embossing folder.

The finishing touches were a couple of Perfect Plum Candy Dots and some Rhinestone Jewels.

Occasions Catalogue Preview - Birthday Blooms in black

Hasn't time flown - tomorrow's the day that everyone can make their purchases from the gorgeous new Occasions Catalogue and earn FREE Sale-a-bration items at the same time!

I'm a bit stuck on Crushed Curry and Wink of Stella at the moment - I don't seem to be able to keep away from them!

This card started out very differently and went through several different looks before ending up here!  There are still things I wish I'd done differently ... and I will - on the next one I make!

However, here it is.

So hard to capture, but this card really shimmers in the light!

I'm really in love with the beautiful shimmer from Wink of Stella - the only trouble I have with it is that it's REALLY hard to photograph!

I added more Wink of Stella to the lighter areas of the flower.

I clear heat-embossed the birthday bloom onto Basic Black cardstock and then bleached it.  Once the bleach was good and dry, I applied a generous coating of clear Wink of Stella.  I used the Out of the Box technique to die cut the floral centrepiece with one of the Ovals Collection framelits.  

I used both sides of the yellow sheet in the Perfectly Artistic Designer Series Paper Pack (141021).  This is a FREE Sale-a-bration item (with a $90 purchase) but is only available for a limited time.  It's gorgeous, so don't delay!

I stamped random(ish) dots using one of the stamps in the Birthday Blooms set.  I did this by applying some gold Wink of Stella to the stamp, so the gold dots shimmer in the light.

I painted the flowers in the lower corners of the card with Crushed Curry ink as well as some gold and clear Wink of Stella.  

I also stamped some random little flowers onto the background with Crushed Curry ink that I'd stamped off twice.

The greeting is from the Birthday Blossoms set.

Birthday Blossoms

This week I have entered into the Global Design Group Challenge -GDP008 which calls for us to CASE a beautiful card designed by Kylie Bertucci.

 This is the card that I have made using the Birthday Blossoms stamp set.  The colours are So Saffron and Chocolate Chip with Whisper White

Birthday Blossoms for my entry to GDP008

 I stamped the background layer with the small flowers using So Saffron ink, stamped off first.  The flowers are stamped with Chocolate Chip onto So Saffron and watercoloured a little with Chocolate Chip.  The large flowers are punched out with the matching Pansy Punch.  The circular label is stamped with Chocolate Chip and sponged with So Saffron and Chocolate Chip.

I enjoyed making it so much that I decided to make some similar ones!

You've Got This in pastel

I was very excited when Kylie Bertucci announced the launching of the Global Design Project challenge site.  The team of people involved are all SO talented that I'm sure it'll soon be a great source of inspiration to all of us.

This first colour challenge has really reinforced for me the creative and growth value of doing challenges.  These are definitely not colours that I use much - either together or individually - but I like the result so much, I think I'll be using them again!

You've Got This with sentiment from Birthday Blossoms

I stamped the front flower with the new Basic Black Archival ink, masked it, stamped another flower, masked that and stamped the third flower.  Then I masked that flower too before stamping the background using the baby wipe stamping technique with the three inks; Smoky Slate, Pink Pirouette and So Saffron.

I watercoloured the flowers, using Pink Pirouette for the flowers, to which I added a little Smoky Slate for the flowers at the back.  The flower centres are So Saffron with some Smoky Slate shadows and the stems and leaves are So Saffron and Smoky Slate.

I added a little bit of Smoky Slate shading around the bunch of flowers.

The painted panel is layered onto Smoky Slate and Pink Pirouette card stock.

The sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms.  I cut it with the smallest of the rectangular Tags & Labels framelets and extended the length using the method I describe in this post.  Then I edged it with So Saffron.

Several Shades of Grey!

There are so many beautiful stamp sets and papers in the new catalogue that I'm like a kid in a candy shop at the moment!

Yesterday I had some time to play and decided to try the Timeless Elegance DSP.  I just love it!  It's so gorgeous it really does all the heavy lifting for you, making it really quick and easy to create a beautiful card!  How good is that?!

In just a short space of time, with the addition of of the Watercolour Wonder and Awesomely Artistic stamp sets I made these three cards.

By just letting the beautiful prints on the DSP do all the talking, I could have made even more!

I used the Out of the Box technique to cut out the stamped panel with the new Lots of Labels Framelits.  I stamped the dragonfly with versamark onto Very Vanilla card, applied heat & stick powder and then dazzling diamonds.  I highlighted around the wings with an aquapainter and basic grey ink.

Awesomely Artistic stamp set

I watercoloured the Awesomely Artistic foliage with Sahara Sand and Basic Grey inks.  The die cuts were edged with Basic Grey ink.  I stamped the frame and the word "Friend" from the Awesomely Artistic set and cut it out with the matching framelit from the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelit set.

Happy Birthday is from the Sprinkles of Life set.  Since it's photopolymer I was able to bend it to fit the Bitty Banner Framelet.

I layered the Timeless Elegance DSP onto Basic Black cardstock and then onto the Sahara Sand card base.

Watercolour Wonder Stamp Set

 The sentiment on the striped card is from Birthday Blossoms.  I hand cut the Very Vanilla layer to points and layered it onto Sahara Sand cardstock cut with another of the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits.  Then I applied two of the smallest of the metal rimmed pearl embellishments.  I stamped the Watercolour Wings butterfly with Sahara Sand, Basic Grey and Black.

The Timeless Elegance DSP is layered onto Basic Black and then onto the Sahara Sand card base.  Both the butterfly and the sentiment are popped up on dimensionals.

Watercolour Wonder Stamp Set

For the last card, the Timeless Elegance DSP is edged with black ink and layered onto the Basic Grey card.

The sentiment is from That Thing You Did and I stamped it in black directly onto the DSP.

The Watercolour Wings butterfly is stamped in black and Basic Grey.  I then picked out parts of it with the 2-way glue pen and applied Dazzling Diamonds glitter.  The wings are popped up on dimensionals.
