Christmas cards: Poinsettia Petals Die Cuts on Plush Poinsettia

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #sneakpeekminicatalogue #christmascards #cardmaking #poinsettiapetalsbundle #plushpoinsettia , Christmas Cards, Poinsettia Place Suite, Mini Catalogue Sneak Peek, Xmas Cards, Stampin' Up Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
Poinsettia Place Suite and Red & Green Foil:
the shiny foil and soft, velvety Plush Poinsettia paper look stunning together!

Back to the Christmas focus!

I LOVE easy, quick but beautiful cards - especially at Christmas when I'm making lots!  So I'm really grateful for the Poinsettia Petals Bundle - in fact, I purchased the entire Poinsettia Place Suite and I'm so glad I did!  It makes Christmas cardmaking effortless as well as stylish!

For the first card, I used the new Red & Green Foil Sheets for the poinsettia.  For the second I used Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler cardstock.

For both, I added elements of Gold Foil Sheet and a greeting stamped with Cherry Cobbler ink.

The Poinsettia Place Suite - makes Christmas card-making soooo easy!

I cut the banners with the new, incredibly useful, Banners Pick A Punch: one punch that offers two end shapes in three sizes each.

Also from the Poinsettia Place Suite are the gorgeous Beaded Pearls (what perfect Poinsettia centres!) and Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper.

In an upcoming post, I'll be sharing another card that I made with the Plush Poinsettia paper that illustrates that it's not just for Christmas!

In next week's posts, I'll be sharing more Christmas cards that show how cleverly the products in the suite work together.

The Poinsettia Place Suite Comprises:
Poinsettia Petals Bundle (Poinsettia Petals stamp set & Poinsettia Dies)
Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper
Beaded Pearls
Poinsettia Place Designer Series Paper
Real Red 3/8" (1cm") Sheer Ribbon

Thank you for visiting.

Old Fashioned Whiskey Business

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #masculinecard #whiskeybusiness , Whiskey Business, Masculine Card, Stampin' Up Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
A masculine card made with the Whiskey Business stamp set and Tasteful Labels Dies

This is the second card I've made with the Whiskey Business stamp set, last time I used the decanter image.

The base card is Early Espresso to which I added a layer of Cinnamon Cider which I randomly stamped with Versamark.

The label layers were cut with the Tasteful Labels. I cut the Cajun Craze label in half and attached one half at each end.  I used a piece of Faux Suede Trim to tie it all together.

I stamped the glass first, masked it and then stamped the shelf so that the glass sits on the shelf.

Thank you for visiting.

Game On - Royal Flush

#thecraftythinker #stampinup #cardmaking #gameon #masculinecard , Game On, Masculine card, Tasteful Labels Dies, Stampin' Up Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
A masculine card created with the Game On stamp set and Tasteful Labels Dies

Here's another card that I made with the Game On stamp set.  I decided to use a backdrop of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper to provide a suggestion of a table top.

Having stamped the image with Basic Gray ink, I used a Real Red Stampin' Write Marker to add the red colour to the playing cards then cut out the image with one of the Tasteful Labels Dies.

To create the black label layer, I simply cut a label, cut it in half and adhered it underneath.

Thank you for visiting.

Snowmum Shaker Card

SU, Christmas card, Xmas, Shaker Card, Sponging, Masking, www.thecraftythinker.com.au
The glitter in the shaker falls into interesting snow falls
I came over all adventurous yesterday and made my first shaker card!  I've been thinking of improvements ever since but, meanwhile - here it is!

http://www.global-design-project.com/2015/11/global-design-project-gdp012.htmlI have decided to enter it into this week's Global Design Project #GDP012 since Brian King's lovely card inspired me to use the Snow Place stamp set.

I've called it my Snowmum card because of the comforting arm/stick around the little snowman.  My niece had been visiting with her new baby and all the cuteness must have affected me!

Christmas card - To You & Yours Too

Time is not my friend at the moment so I was very excited to complete a card to enter into the latest Global Design Project challenge!  This is GDP010 - click the image for the link to join in or see all the lovely entries.

SU, Global Design Project, Heat & Stick, Delicate Ornament Thinlits, sponging
My entry for #GDP010: To You & Yours Too, Delicate Ornaments Thinlits, Masking & Sponging
To go with the moonlight theme, I stamped the black cardstock with versamark using the little stars from the stamp set and heat embossed with Heat & Stick before sprinkling with Dazzling Diamonds glitter.

I masked the moon with a circle of scrap paper (I made it sticky but removable with some 2-Way glue) before sponging with Soft Sky, Pool Party, Pacific Point, Night of Navy and a tiny touch of black.  Then I removed the mask and stamped the main image from the stamp set with Archival black ink.  I then cut out the image with one of the Delicate Ornament Thinlits and sponged the edge with a little black.

The ornament top and hook are cut from Silver Foil with dies from the same set.

I stamped the banner from the Project Life Hello December 2015 stamp set and coloured between the lines with my Pool Party Stampin' write marker (although it's a bit hard to see in the photo).  I manipulated the photopolymer greeting from the Happy Scenes stamp set so that it followed the shape of the banner and stamped with Pacific Point ink.  Then I fussy cut the banner.

The squares are Pacific Point cardstock layered onto Pool Party. The main card is also Pool Party.

I had so much fun with this that I went on to make several more cards using the same stamp set and similar technique: some sunsets and some moonlight.  I added the sled & reindeer image from Cozy Christmas and to some of them I added the trees from the Wonderland stamp set.

Crushed Curry, Tangelo Twist, Cajun Craze, Bermuda Bay, Night of Navy, Black

You've Got This in pastel

I was very excited when Kylie Bertucci announced the launching of the Global Design Project challenge site.  The team of people involved are all SO talented that I'm sure it'll soon be a great source of inspiration to all of us.
http://www.global-design-project.com/p/about-designers.html

This first colour challenge has really reinforced for me the creative and growth value of doing challenges.  These are definitely not colours that I use much - either together or individually - but I like the result so much, I think I'll be using them again!

SU, Baby Wipe Stamping Technique, Changing the size of a die cut,#GDP001
You've Got This with sentiment from Birthday Blossoms
I stamped the front flower with the new Basic Black Archival ink, masked it, stamped another flower, masked that and stamped the third flower.  Then I masked that flower too before stamping the background using the baby wipe stamping technique with the three inks; Smoky Slate, Pink Pirouette and So Saffron.

I watercoloured the flowers, using Pink Pirouette for the flowers, to which I added a little Smoky Slate for the flowers at the back.  The flower centres are So Saffron with some Smoky Slate shadows and the stems and leaves are So Saffron and Smoky Slate.

I added a little bit of Smoky Slate shading around the bunch of flowers.

The painted panel is layered onto Smoky Slate and Pink Pirouette card stock.

The sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms.  I cut it with the smallest of the rectangular Tags & Labels framelets and extended the length using the method I describe in this post.  Then I edged it with So Saffron.

Thank you for looking at my card and I would welcome any comments.

Creative Crew August Challenge - Saying "Goodbye" to Summer - Holiday

Holiday Focus

Well, all good things must come to an end and I'm sad to say that this is my last month on the Creative Crew team.  It's been such an honour to be part of this team and also very enjoyable - I'm going to miss it but wish the new team all the best - I know they'll come up with lots of  beautiful inspiration for us all.

CCREW0815HF
You can be the dreamer here:
3 August  National Watermelon Day
10 August National S'mores Day
13 August Left Hander's Day
14 August V-J Day
30 August National Marshmallow Toasting Day

As an Australian, I have chosen to highlight an Australian national day.  Friday 28 August is Daffodil Day - something very close to my heart.

What is Daffodil Day?  It's an annual fund-raising event run by the Cancer Council of Australia when we buy daffodils or daffodil pins to help support vital cancer research, develop cancer prevention programs, and provide patient support (like Cancer Council 13 11 20) for the tens of thousands of Australian lives affected by cancer.  Daffodil Day is a day when we can all show we care about beating cancer.

The Daffodil is a hardy annual flower that pushes its way through the frozen earth after a long winter to herald the return of spring, new life, vitality and growth - it symbolises rebirth and new beginnings.  So it was chosen by the Cancer Counil to represent hope for a cancer-free future.

SU, English Garden DSP, Fun Flower Punch
Centre Step Card to celebrate Daffodil Day

I just love Step Cards - they're so quick, easy and effective!  This style of Centre Step Card is one of my go-to folds!  There are many tutorials available.

The base is Mossy Meadow, layered with Hello Honey and English Garden DSP.   I used the Ovals Collection Framelits to layer Mossy Meadow and Whisper White.  The edge of the white oval and all the DSP is inked with Hello Honey.

The ribbon is Hello Honey Quilted Cotton which I found in my stash.  I'm sorry that it's retired.

To make the daffodils I used the Fun Flower punch with Crushed Curry cardstock (edged with Hello Honey ink) and the 1.25" Scallop Circle punch with Pumpkin Pie cardstock with a little Pumpkin Pie button in the centre.  The leaves are free cut from Garden Green cardstock.

SU, Punch Art, Daffodil, 3-D flower
How to make a daffodil

This picture of the flowers in progress is probably worth more than a thousand words in describing how I made the daffodils!

Once I'd trimmed the scallop circle, I put a glue dot behind one end to stick it to the other end - this makes the daffodil trumpet.

I used the bone folder on the yellow petals to add depth and then glued the trumpet and a button into the middle of the flower.

Have fun with this challenge, wherever you are and whatever you choose to celebrate!  I look forward to seeing your creations over at Splitcoaststampers!

Thanks for looking.

Step card for new baby

SU Something for baby, Petite Petals, Step Card, Baby Card
My niece is expecting the birth of her third child - a much-anticipated event for the entire family!  No rushing to make a card at the last minute this time - I'm ready!  I've used gender neutral colours to welcome the arrival of my new great niece or nephew and now all I have to do is wait!

I entered this card into the Splitcoaststampers May Holiday Focus challenge (CCREW0515HF) because I was really struggling with the brief for this challenge: Now that Spring is finally here (in the Northern Hemisphere), what are you absolutely excited about that's coming up soon or sure to be coming?

Well, this baby is sure to be coming and it's definitely exciting!  I was struggling with the reference to Spring (or Autumn here in Australia) until it dawned on me that our lives also have seasons (I'm definitely in Autumn!  My colours may be changing but at least noting has actually fallen off yet!).  The colours in this card are Spring-like as well as gender neutral!

Retirement "card"

Packing memories into a retirement "card"

One of my team members at the office is retiring soon, so I decided to make her something more special than a normal retirement card. This little suitcase or briefcase (it could be either really) contains a collection of photos taken during her time with the company.

SU case project, 3D,

Also inside the case, there is a decorated card, individualised with a portrait photo, for each team member on which they will write their farewell messages. The very first thing she will see when she opens the case is a stamped card wishing her a happy retirement from all of us.

SU case project, 3D,
Each person has their own individualised card
on which to write their farewell
message
The case is really a pizza-type box that I sized to suit the photos I wanted to include. The decorations are based on the image in the Traveller stamp set and some ideas gleaned from a variety of samples that I have seen. There are a few things I would change next time but overall I'm happy.

I have entered this case into the Splitcoaststampers May Scrapbook & More Focus challenge (CCREW0515SF) the topic of which is going away, moving, some kind of "going/motion" and could be construed as retirement.

Crazy about you (or not?)

I made this card for the Splitcoaststampers May Catalog Focus Challenge CCREW0515CF.  The challenge is to use any catalogue products that we've harbouring but haven't used yet.

Crazy About You was one of those stamp sets that I just had to have - but mainly for the sentiments - and then (the horror of it) didn't use! I think I didn't fully appreciate the the flower images and failed to see the possibilities. Well, better late than never! I stamped the flowers in So Saffron with a touch of Crisp Cantaloupe and cut a variety of sizes and layers.  The centre flower has four individually cut layers.
SU Stampin' Up! Crazy about you, Flower Frenzy Bigz, Fancy Fans embossing folder
I teamed the retiring Crisp Cantaloupe colour with So Saffron and Pear Pizzazz highlighted with Very Vanilla cardstock and seam binding.

I've also used the leaf spray from the Flower Frenzy Bigz die (the edges sponged with Pear Pizzazz) and the Fancy Fans embossing folder - both retiring.

The centrepiece was cut with the Ovals Framelets and the Very Vanilla oval was popped up with dimensionals.

Pearl Basic Jewels finish it all off.
