Crazy Crafters Blog Hop August 2015 - Stamp-a-stack using a Bundle

Welcome to the Crazy Crafters blog hop for August.

This month we are excited to showcase some of the amazing Bundles in the new Annual Catalogue by creating stacks of different cards using the same bundle.  

Bundles: Vintage Leaves & Beautiful Bunch

What's better than being able to buy punches or dies to match stamp sets (for those of us that aren't natural fussy cutters!)? Buying them as a bundle and saving 15%!!  

There are loads of bundles in the new catalogue (and even more coming in the soon-to-be released seasonal catalogue!) - so there's really something to suit everybody's tastes and needs.

I've used two bundles for my stack of cards: Vintage Leaves (stamp set and matching framelits) and Beautiful Bunch (stamp set + Fun Flower punch).

Coloured leaves & dimensionals for interest

This is the first of my three cards.  I layered English Garden DSP onto a Soft Suede card base.  Then I made a square frame by layering So Saffron onto Old Olive.  Then I arranged my leaves and flower.  I used some dimensionals to add depth and interest. I stamped the frame from Awesomely Artistic in Soft Suede onto So Saffron with a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments in the centre.  I cut this out using the matching framelit from the Project Life Cards and Labels set.  I cut a banner (using the Triple Banner Punch) from Old Olive and layered the sentiment on top. I attached the banner to the card with dimensionals.

The flower:
The flower is stamped in Soft Suede onto Cajun Craze.  After punching it out, I attacked it with my bone folder to give it some dimension.  The centre is another of the stamps from the Beautiful Bunch set, stamped in Soft Suede onto Soft Suede card and punched out with the Petite Petals punch.  It received the same bone folder treatment!  I stuck a metal Rimmed Pearl in the centre.

The next card is very similar but the base card is Old Olive.  The frame is rectangular with So Saffron layered onto Soft Suede.  It doesn't show in the photo (because it's very subtle) but I randomly stamped some of the leaves in Versamark onto the So Saffron layer.  The flower is stamped in Soft Suede onto Cherry Cobbler but centre remains Soft Suede.  I used a different Teeny Tiny Sentiment and after cutting out the frame I sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink.  I attached the leaves and flower using some dimensionals as before.

I stamped out all the leaves using a mix of green inks.  I inked the entire leaf with Crushed Curry and then randomly sponged some Garden Green and Mossy Meadow onto the stamp before stamping onto my Very Vanilla card.  It looked very effective  but with all the colours I put on top later- my efforts may have been wasted!

 My next step was to watercolour the leaves using a mix of Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Garden Green and Mossy Meadow ink and I took no care at all!  Once they were dry, I felt they lacked vibrancy so out came the sponge daubers and I sponged on some Cucumber Crush and Garden Green, using a little Cajun Craze here and there to define them and give them a bit of life.

This is the last card I made.  After cutting out the DSP for the previous two cards I was left with a strip of it that I decided to use for this card.   So I layered it onto a leftover piece of Soft Suede.  I randomly stamped leaf images onto a piece of Mint Macaron with Versamark and then inked the edges with Mint Macaron ink.  I layered that onto a base card of Mint Macaron for a subtle and elegant appearance.  I positioned my DSP strip and then went to work with my leaves and flower!  This flower is also stamped in Soft Suede onto Cherry Cobbler card with a Soft Suede centre and another Metal Rimmed Pearl.

Creative Crew August Challenge - Saying "Goodbye" to Summer - Catalogue

Well, all good things must come to an end and I'm sad to say that this is my last month on the Creative Crew team.  It's been such an honour to be part of this team and also very enjoyable - I'm going to miss it but wish the new team all the best - I know they'll come up with lots of  beautiful inspiration for us all.

Adios, Lazy Days of Summer!  Now is the time for all summery goodies to rock your stamping table!  No summertime stamps?  Let your project take us away on a splendid summer vacation in any way you wish!

Well, it might not be a vacation, but to me roses represent Summer!  And my favourite roses are a combination of yellow and pink. 

Z-fold card featuring Timeless Elegance DSP

You may have noticed that I really love the Timeless Elegance DSP!  It's so versatile and so easy to dress up - just add a little colour.  Here I watercoloured one of the rose images and cut it out with the Deco Labels framelits and edged it with black ink.  I layered this onto Crushed Curry, which I cut with the next size up of framelit.

I stamped with a Petite Petals stamp onto Crushed Curry and Basic Grey with Watermelon Wonder and punched them out with the matching Petite Petals punch.  Then I punched  little flowers from Crushed Curry, Watermelon Wonder and Basic Grey with the Itty Bitty Accents punch.  The centres of the flowers are a combination of Candy Dots and Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

The fold is a Z-fold from Naturals Ivory card stock (I missed it's retirement - sorry.  However, Very Vanilla would do the trick) which I layered with Basic Grey and Timeless Elegance DSP.

I used the smaller of the two framelits to cut another label in Very Vanilla.  I stamped the circular image from A Whole Lot of Lovely in the middle, edged it with black ink and added some Crushed Curry Candy Dots.  Then I stuck this to the inside part of the card so that, when the card is closed, it is hidden by the yellow label on the top of the card.

Then I liberally sprinkled my card with the little flowers to end up with a summer garden.

Splitcoaststampers Creative Crew Challenges - June 2015

I can't believe another month has gone by already and here we are in the middle of the year!  The challenges and gallery are up and running for June, so pop over and take a look at all the inspirational creations or, better yet, play along!  These are my entries for the four June challenges.

Hostess stamp set - Best Thoughts

With the focus on the In Colours, I just had to choose Watermelon Wonder - I think it's the pefect pink!  It's not too bright and not too pastel and has a lovely warmth to it.  Perfect!  I've layered the Watermelon Wonder cardstock onto Cherry Cobbler and I like them very much together.  I stamped onto Whisper White cardstock with black Stazon so that I could watercolour the images with ink: all of the new In Colours (Watermelon Wonder, Delightful Dijon, Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe, Cucumber Crush) and a touch of Cherry Cobbler to add depth to the flower.  The butterfly wing is popped up with a dimensional, although it doesn't really show in the photo.  The bow uses the new Dotted Lace Trim in Watermelon Wonder.  The flower is from the stamp set Best Thoughts which is available to hostesses (worth holding a party for, I think!).  On this occasion I've used a sentiment from a different stamp set -

CCREW0615CF, SUO, Catalog Focus:
I found it really quite difficult to focus on just one new item in the new Catalogue - I love so many of them!  So I cheated a little bit and featured several!  Probably my most favourite at the moment is the stamp set You've Got This (although I think there might be some more favourites once all my new products arrive - I'm fickle like that!).  I stamped the flower onto Whisper White with Stazon and coloured it with Delightful Dijon.  I used a touch of Rich Razzleberry in the centre of the flower, cut it out and gave it a little more glam with a touch of Dazzling Diamonds. 

The cardstock colours are: Blackberry Bliss, Delightful Dijon, Bermuda Bay and Island Indigo.  There's also a touch of Very Vanilla in the banner.  All the colours are drawn from one of my other new favourites - Bohemian DSP.

I punched the top of the DSP framelet with the Scallop Tag Topper and fed a Blackberry Bliss and Very Vanilla banner through it and behind the flower.  I used the new Triple Banner Punch for the banner - oh how it simplifies things!  The sentiment is from Wetlands and is heat-embossed in white.

The final flourish is the Delightful Dijon Blossom Accent which I topped with a Pearl Basic Jewel.

CCREW0615SF, SUO, Scrapbook & More Focus:
Whilst the weather is turning a bit chilly here in Sydney (June being the first month of Winter), elsewhere in the world the focus is turning to weddings! I'll admit this was my favourite of the four challenges because it gave me the perfect opportunity to make a First Anniversary gift for my special friends Rebekah & Luke.  We were so happy to be able to attend their beautiful wedding in England last year and I really enjoyed "revisiting" it for this challenge.

I decorated a fairly plain and simple frame with the Gorgeous Grunge and Everything Eleanor stamp sets.  The leaves were made with the Bird Builder Punch and the flowers with the Petite Petals Stamp set and punch, Itty Bitty Accents punch and two sizes of Scallop Circle punches.  The really tiny little flowers were cut with the new Tree Builder Punch.  Centres for the smaller flowers are pearls or candy dots.  The centres of the three larger flowers are Dazzling Diamonds.  The three larger flowers were inspired by Miriam Spiess's Miriamthiums - but I'm afraid I need more practice!  You'll find Miriam's tutorial and beautiful flowers here.

The sentiments are from the Project Life Remember This stamp set and the ovals at the top of the frame are cut with the Scallop Oval and Large Oval punches. 

Colours used are black, Whisper White, Slate Grey, Basic Grey and Tangerine Tango.

CCREW0615HF, SUO, Holiday Focus:
Fathers' Day is celebrated here in September rather than June, so I shall be very prepared when September comes around - as long as I remember that I've already made the card!

It turns out that this card was easier to make than photograph!  I used my favourite Bohemian DSP with Blackberry Bliss, Rich Razzleberry and Delightful Dijon cardstock.  I stamped images and sentiments from the Guy Greetings stamp set using Blackberry Bliss ink on Very Vanilla card.  I anchored the banners with Bermuda Bay and Island Indigo candy dots on candy dot brad bases.  To fill in a bare corner on the front of the card I made a little feature with the new Bohemian Borders stamp set which I coloured with Bermuda Bay and Delightful Dijon Stampin' Write markers and added a little Crystal Effects to the centre to create a little jewel.

Blog Hop - Sneak Peek

 

Thank you for joining us for this month's Crazy Crafters Blog Hop.  If you've been following the hop, you should have arrived here from the very talented Angela Lorenz. 

We are all very excited about all the lovely new products in the brand new Annual Catalogue and this Hop is all about giving you a sneak peek of what's in store for us all from 2nd June when the 2015-2016 Catalogue comes into effect.  We hope that you will love the new products as much as we do and that you enjoy our previews and ideas.  If you've already got your copy of the new catalogue you'll understand just why we're so excited! 

I found it really difficult to settle on an item to showcase because I love so many of them!  In the end I decided to make two cards using the Sprinkles of Life stamp set which is just so versatile.  With same set (and without trying very hard!) it can make cupcakes (with our without candles or sprinkles), clouds, rain, ice cream in a cone, a basket of flowers, a basket of apples, a tree (with or without leaves, flowers, fruit) - you get the picture!  There is also a matching punch, just to make it even easier to create the tops of the cupcakes, tree, rain drops etc.

This first card is a box full of cupcakes for my friend Emma, the Cupcake Queen, who bakes the most beautiful cakes and cupcakes and for whom I'm happy to taste test anytime!  She's super-busy at the moment making beautiful daffodil cupcakes for a Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser.

The second card is a "magic card".  There are lots of tutorials for magic cards and the only thing I've done a little differently is to place the magic bit onto the front of a normal card (made by folding a piece of A5 cardstock in half) because I like cards that open.  I used three of the new 2015-2017 In Colours: Tip Top Taupe, Delightful Dijon and Watermelon Wonder.

Step card for new baby

My niece is expecting the birth of her third child - a much-anticipated event for the entire family!  No rushing to make a card at the last minute this time - I'm ready!  I've used gender neutral colours to welcome the arrival of my new great niece or nephew and now all I have to do is wait!

I entered this card into the Splitcoaststampers May Holiday Focus challenge (CCREW0515HF) because I was really struggling with the brief for this challenge: Now that Spring is finally here (in the Northern Hemisphere), what are you absolutely excited about that's coming up soon or sure to be coming?

Well, this baby is sure to be coming and it's definitely exciting!  I was struggling with the reference to Spring (or Autumn here in Australia) until it dawned on me that our lives also have seasons (I'm definitely in Autumn!  My colours may be changing but at least noting has actually fallen off yet!).  The colours in this card are Spring-like as well as gender neutral!

So long Stippled Blossoms

Welcome to our April Blog Hop, you should have arrived here from the lovely Angela Lorenz.  This month it's all about celebrating (and maybe mourning a little) the great products that will be retiring soon.

Stippled Blossoms was one of the first Stampin' Up! sets I purchased and I love and use it just as much today as I did then. This really is one of my all-time favourites and I'm so sad to see it go.  I've combined it here with the retiring In-Colours: Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Baked Brown Sugar and Coastal Cabana - weren't they great colours!

This card also includes the retiring punches: Small Oval and Artisan Label as well as retiring framelets: Apothecary Accents (another firm favourite of mine) and Bitty Banners.

Just to continue the retiring theme, I've also used the retiring background Dictionary stamp.

Continuing my quest to use the Striped Scallop Thinlet!  This one sits on a base created with the I Love Lace stamp and emboss resist technique.  The butterfly is from the Butterfly Basics stamp set with matching framelet.  I offset two layers of Striped Scallops.

New Saleabration Products

Thanks for joining us on this Crazy Crafters Blog Hop.  We hope you'll pick up some useful tips and  inspiration.

Something I really like about the four bonus Saleabration items is that they go together really well. The Sheer Perfection Vellum Stack is a perfect match with the Nature's Perfection stamp set but also works very well with the For Being You stamp set - as well as many other stamp sets in the Stampin' Up! collection!  The In-Colour Accessory Pack is also very versatile.

I've been enjoying these new products a lot - as you'll have noticed, since my last two Posts also featured these products!  I really love that vellum!

This gate fold card has panels of Sheer Perfection vellum on the outside, coloured with Classic Inks and a Blender Pen.  The closure features the Butterfly thinlet die.  A sprinkling of Rhinestone Basic Jewels & Itty Bitty Accents punch cuts add dimension.

The inside of the card has a panel I stamped with the Nature's Perfection stamp set, using the masking technique - also coloured with Classic Inks and a blender pen.

Unfortunately, I seem to be making a lot of Sympathy cards at the moment.  The next one is an easel card using Sheer Perfection vellum and flowers I made with the Flower Shop stamp set and Pansy punch.

Then, I coloured in one piece of the vellum using the Stampin' Write Markers, and made two really quick cards with it.
One card has a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments punched out with the Word Window Punch and layered using the Modern Label Punch.  The other is embellished with dimensional flowers.

The final card I made is definitely not my favourite!  I think I had a bit of a reaction to making so many sympathy cards that it's rather too blingy!  I used a mix of Stampin' Up! Rhinestone Jewels and some "other" rhinestones I had in my craft room that were different shapes and colours. I found this really interesting because putting them together really highlighted the superior quality and shine of the Stampin' Up! rhinestones!  I stamped the butterflies from the Nature's Perfection stamp set onto Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and coloured them in with a blender pen.

On this card (I think I threw everything at it!) is the Bow Builder Punch, Finishing Touches Edgelets, Pool Party ribbon, Sheer Perfection Vellum and For Being You stamp set.

Striped Scallop Sponged Background

Do you have things in your craft room that you bought because you loved them but that don't get as much use as you thought they would? 

I'll raise my hand and admit that I have a few, one of which is the Striped Scallop Thinlet.  I completely fell for it when I saw it but then I just seemed to keep overlooking it.  So, having come to this realisation a week or so ago, I challenged myself to use it as much as possible in as many different ways as I could .... and it's been a lot of  fun!

This is a card that I made for a very special friend.  The Striped Scallop Thinlet makes its appearance in the sponged background.  The Blushing Bride flower uses the method that you can see here.

Pansy Punch layered Flower Shop flower

I felt it was time to make a more feminine card, so today's card features quite a lot of pink - much more than I would normally use!

This card almost created itself.  I LOVE the new Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper, so the colours were drawn from there, Wild Wasabi and Rose Red, but it all started with the flower.

I had seen my friend and fellow Crazy Crafter, Angela Lorenz's tutorial on creating her beautiful flowers with the Beautiful Bunch and Petite Petals sets and was totally inspired by her.  Since I don't have the Beautiful Bunch set, I decided to experiment with the Flower Shop stamp set and Pansy Punch.

The methodology was similar in principle to Angela's but the wider petals on the flower required a change to the method of pinching the petals together.  Here are the steps I took just in case you'd like to give this lovely technique a try with the Pansy Punch.

Layered Flowers:

I stamped two images from the flower shop stamp set using Rose Red ink on Whisper White card stock.  Then I sponged the images with Blushing Bride ink. The next step was to punch out the images with the Pansy Punch.  Then, with a pair of paper snips, I made a small cut between each petal just as far as the beginning of the centre of the flower.

I stamped one image from the Petite Petals stamp set using Rose Red ink on Whisper White card stock and sponged with Pink Pirouette ink then punched out this image with the Petite Petals punch.

Using a sponge dauber, I inked all the edges of the flowers with Rose Red.

I sprayed a little water onto the back of each flower just to dampen them a little.

One at a time,  I gently grasped each side of a Flower shop flower petal and squeezed together to form a sort of concertina effect (see the picture to get a better idea of this).

For the Petite Petals flower, I gently squeezed the tips of the petals together to form points.

Then came the hardest part – leaving them to dry!

Once dry, I carefully unfolded the petals a bit.

Then I placed the flowers on a soft, padded surface and gently rubbed in circles in the centre of the flower with an implement with a rounded end (I used the end of pen that was smooth and round).  This lifts up the petals.

I placed a glue dot on the centre back of one flower and layered it on top of the other flower, offsetting the petals.  Then I placed a glue dot on the back of the Petite Petals flower and, again offsetting the petals, adhered it to the centre of the flower.

To finish off the centre my flower I added a coloured rhinestone that I found in my stash.
