Oh So Eclectic Brusho

I made this card to use up a strip of Whisper White card that I'd dipped into a remaining pool of Brusho on my desk after making this card.

Brusho and Oh So Eclectic Bundle
I'd already dipped another strip into the ink (and used it to make this card) and then added a bit more water, so this strip was a little too washed out and blended to be interesting in its own right.

So I used the Background Bits and Oh So Eclectic stamp sets with Island Indigo ink to create a little interest.  I used some Glitter Enamel Dots for flower centres.

I added a flower made with the Oh So Eclectic Bundle and Powder Pink cardstock and Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.  It has a Metal Rimmed Pearl for the centre and anchors the greeting banner.

The base card is made from Island Indigo cardstock and there are layers of various pieces of Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.

Thank you for visiting.
'Til next time!

Ink it! Stamp it! Design Team Blog Hop: Technique - Bleaching

No automatic alt text available.
Welcome to the Ink it! Stamp it! Design Team Blog Hop - we hop every month so be sure to pop back and visit us again!  Today we have a Technique theme - which always makes for an exciting Blog Hop with tons of inspiration!

You are currently at my page - Stephanie Fischer, The Crafty Thinker.  At the end of my post there is a full line up of team members, please click on the name after mine in the list to continue the hop.

The technique I have chosen is bleaching - one of my favourites.  Sometimes I "paint" with bleach, adjusting the amount of bleach in various places to achieve light or dark shades but this time I kept very simple so as not to detract from the gorgeous butterfly.

The only place I like to use bleach is in the craft room!
The base card and decorative panel are Fresh Fig cardstock and there's a layer of Sweet Sugarplum.  In order to be thrifty with my Gold Foil Sheet, I simply added a strip to each side of the central panel before adhering to the Sweet Sugarplum layer.

The greeting, from the Birthday Blooms stamp set, is gold heat embossed and the little splodges (or perhaps they're supposed to be little flowers) are stamped with Versamark.

The beauty and the frustration of bleaching is that every batch of cardstock reacts differently so you ever know what to expect.  My original intention was to use Basic Black cardstock.  In the past I've had great success with Basic Black but this batch just wouldn't react!  Eventually I gave up and switched to the Fresh Fig cardstock!

You can never tell how the cardstock will (or won't in this case!) react to the bleach.  Every batch is different.
The black card will not go to waste - I'll use it for something else.

Step by step

  • Wipe the cardstock with embossing buddy.
  • Stamp image with Versamark
  • Cover with gold embossing powder (or colour of your choice) and then tap off the excess
  • Use a heat tool to "melt" the embossing powder
  • Apply bleach into areas that you require to lighten
  • If you wish, once the bleached areas are dry, you can add colours with your favourite medium

Tips and Tricks:

  • Bleach is harsh on brushes so apply the bleach with an old brush and then keep that brush for bleach.  Rinse the brush well afterwards.
  • Use more bleach in areas that you want the lightest and a dryer brush in areas that you require a little darker
  • Let the bleach dry between applications (until it's dry you don't know what it really looks like)
  • If you're impatient like me you can dry it with a heat tool but only from the back (to preserve the heat embossing)
  • Keep adding layers of bleach until you're happy with the outcome

I hope you've enjoyed this card and I welcome your comments.

Thank you so much for joining us today.  We hope you'll join us again next month for our projects featuring our favourite new papers in the Occasions Catalogue!  I'm Stephanie Fischer and to keep hopping around, see the list below to see who is up next with another great project!

Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop - Love

Image may contain: text
Welcome to the monthly Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop.  You are currently visiting Stephanie Fischer (The Crafty Thinker) from Australia.  Please remember to click on the next person in the line up at the end of my post to continue enjoying all the wonderful projects in the hop.

Our theme this month is Love: Anniversaries, Valentines, Weddings

This is my slightly unorthodox Valentines card for my much-loved husband!  He has never owned a pair of cowboy boots  - but I'm sure he won't mind the artistic licence!  Inside I will write "Thank you for choosing to put your boots under my bed!"
#thecraftythinker, #valentinecard, #cardmaking, #masculinecard, #stampinup, Valentine card, Country Livin', Masculine, Stampin' Up! Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
Perhaps slightly unorthodox colours for a Valentine card but, I hope, masculine!

The base card is Basic Gray, followed by a layer of Lemon Lime Twist.  I embossed a 2" strip of Lemon Lime Twist card with one of the Petal Pair Embossing Folders and then swiped my Basic Gray ink pad across it.  I also sponged the edges with Basic Gray ink.

The image from the Country Livin' stamp set is stamped with Basic Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock and coloured with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.  I also added a small layer of Basic Gray cardstock.

Stampin' Dimensionals provide depth on this masculine Valentine Card

The hearts are cut with the Sweet & Sassy Framelits in Basic Gray and Smoky Slate card.  The smaller set of hearts is embellished with a Real Red Enamel Shape.  The greeting on the Whisper White heart is from the Graceful Garden stamp set and the tiny Real Red heart is cut with one of the dies in the Umbrella Weather set of Framelits.  The heart is edged with Real Red ink.

Thank you for visiting.  I hope you enjoyed this card.  You are currently visiting Stephanie Fischer - please see the list below and click on the next person on the list to hop through all of the people to see all of our projects.  You don't want to miss any!

Occasions Catalogue product - Myths & Magic: Dragon Slayer

I fell head over heels for this gorgeous stamp set as soon as I saw it.  It's part of the equally irresistable Myths & Magic Suite.

A valiant knight faces up to a fearsome dragon - Magical Day stamp set

This was my first play with the set, so I kept it very simple and just watercoloured the little scene.

Why is the dragon red?  In her final years, my mother derived much enjoyment from singing as part of the Sydney Welsh Choir (although we have no Welsh blood!).  They perform overseas every couple of years and on one such trip my mother presented me with a gorgeous red Welsh dragon.

This card will be for one of my little great nephews.

Thank you for visiting.

Perennial Birthday Project Kit

I just love this Perennial Birthday Project Kit!  No excuses now for being disorganised or forgetting a birthday!

Never forget a birthday again with the Perennial Birthday Project Kit
Everything you need is included except adhesives, stamps and inks.  The gorgeous box has 12 of these cards ready printed - all you have to do is apply the month sticker to the tabs.

Then there's the makings for 4 cards each of 4 different designs - all of them gorgeous!  It wasn't in my budget to purchase the coordinating stamp set (Perennial Birthday) so I had a look through my stash for things to use instead and was very pleased with the outcome.

Card from the Perennial Birthday Project Kit with greeting from Celebrate You Thinlits

For the card above, instead of the large Happy Birthday greeting stamped onto the banner, I used the largest die in the FREE Celebrate You Thinlits set (see my Specials & Promotions page for more information of how to get your Sale-A-Bration freebies!)

For the next card I used the Swirly Bird stamp set and a greeting from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set.

The greeting I stamped on the banner for the next card is from the Birthday Banners stamp set.  It's photopolymer so it was easy to manipulate into the shape of the banner.
