Free As A Bird with Delicate Lace - A Masculine Card

I set myself the task of making a masculine card using the Free As A Bird stamp set and came up with this card.  It's also inspired by "my little buddy" - see below for the explanation.

Using the Delicate Lace Die, I cut a section from the Basic Black card front.  I then used the same die to cut some Whisper White card and an offcut of Garden Lane Designer Series Paper and glued the pieces into position.

The bird is coloured with Crumb Cake and Mint Macaron Stampin' Blends alcohol markers and then fussy cut before adhering to the card front.

The greeting (from Good Morning Magnolia) is white heat embossed.

The base card is Gray Granite.

Just recently I rescued a Noisy Miner that was being bullied by a group of others and (having crashed into the windows a few times) ended up floating  face down in the pool, wings spread.  I waited for my husband to come home to help me take it to WIRES and tried placing it in a box (as they suggested) but, as it turned out, it would only settle while sitting on my hand.  It had a sleep, preened and chirped occasionally,  It was really very sweet.  My little buddy for the afternoon!

Botanical Bliss Paper Pieced Card

This is what became of the Highland Heather base card that I didn't use for Wednesday's card.

I also had a very narrow frame of Champagne Foil left from that card which I glued to this card rather than waste it.  Then I had to figure out what to do with it!

The little flower is cut with a die from the Petals & More Thinlits

The paper-piecing is very straight forward.  I simply cut the flowers once with the Champagne Foil and once with the Gorgeous Grape cardstock.  For the leaves, I cut only that portion with the die from Shaded Spruce cardstock.  To make life as simple as possible, I had placed Mulitpurpose Adhesive Sheet to the back of all the cardstock before I started cutting.

TIPS:

• I was careful to keep the shapes in the die to make it simple to know which piece to put where.
• The Take Your Pick Tool made it very quick and easy to pick up each little piece and position it.

Sneak Peek - Graceful Glass Suite with 2018-2020 In-Colours

I originally made it for Sunday's Crazy Crafters Blog Hop but wasn't entirely happy with it.  So this card is a CASE of a card by Rachel Tesselman featuring:

The base card is the new colour: Gray Granite

I sponged the Delightfully Detailed laser cut strip with Lemon Lime Twist, Pacific Point and Tranquil Tide inks.  I coloured the rose with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.  The label was cut with one of the Petals & More Thinlits, the top layer was embossed with the Simple Stripes embossing folder and the strip of Blueberry Bushel cardstock was embossed with the Hexagons folder.

I love the new Graceful Glass Suite (Painted glass stamp set, Stained Glass dies and Graceful Glass Vellum) but there's something about this card that I find a bit disturbing and I'm pretty sure it's the colours.

I'm really excited to have the new colour Gray Granite in the colour range - I'm pretty sure it's going to become one of my go-to neutrals.  I also really like the new In-Colours, even though I find the Pineapple Punch a little strong - it'll be great in small doses.

I think the problem is that I don't yet have any matching inks and it's been a great eye-opener!

The truth is that I'd started to take for granted the wonderful array of matching shades, automatically reaching for ribbon, cardstock, patterned paper, inks, markers and embellishments all in matching and coordinating colours.

I had forgotten my pre-Stampin' Up days when I spent ages finding colour matches (and they were never exact!) and blending ink colours.

So, even though I may not love this card, I'm grateful for the reminder of just how awesome the Stampin' Up colours and products really are! ..... and I'll have some matching inks next week!

Butterfly Inlay

A glittery inlaid butterfly - suitable for many occasions

The assortment pack of Glimmer Paper is so generous (and FREE during Sale-A-Bration!) that I've been trying to think up ways to use more of it!

To inlay the butterfly, I cut it out three times - once from the Night of Navy panel, once in Island Indigo Glimmer Paper and finally in the Sweet Sugarplum Glimmer Paper.

I layered the Night of Navy panel onto the Whisper White, glued the Island Indigo butterfly into position and then added the pieces of Sweet Sugarplum and Night of Navy.  Easy but a little time-consuming!

Tip:  Try to keep the butterfly pieces in position after cutting, to make it quicker and easier to identify the pieces you need.

I kept the layout of the card simple to offset the over-the-top nature of all the glimmer paper!

Special Reason

I decided it was time to use some products that I've been overlooking a bit.

The colours are Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry and Mint Macaron

Outside of Christmas, I don't usually use a lot of sparkly paper but the colours in the Glimmer Paper Assortment pack (available in the second release of  Sale-A-Bration products - free with a purchase of $90) really caught my eye!

Here I've combined the Sweet Sugarplum Glimmer Paper with Rich Razzleberry cardstock to create the flower with the Stylish Stems Framelits.  I had great fun piecing the petals together - I love puzzles!  I cut the Swirly Scribbles Thinlit with the Mint Macaron glimmer Paper.

One of the great things about the Irresistably Floral Specialty Designer Series Paper (apart from the beautiful designs!) is that the can be coloured to match any Stampin' Up cardstock.  For this card, I sponged the paper with Sweet Sugarplum ink.

A matching flower inside completes the card

The inside of the card is decorated with stamps from the matching Special Reason set.  To soften the flower a little, after stamping with Sweet Sugarplum ink, I ran my aqua painter over the individual petals.  I picked up a little Mint Macaron ink with the aqua painter to darken the centre of the flower.

The paper I used for the dress and hat is the patterned side of Envelope paper from the 2016-2018 In-Colour pack.

The sentiment is stamped in Basic Black onto Sweet Sugarplum card and cut out with a square Stitched Shapes Framelit - altered to create an oblong.
