Ink It! Stamp It! Blog Hop : Holiday Catalogue

An incredibly quick and easy card to make with the Hearts Come Home stamp set!

So, with Christmas trees and Santa in his sleigh, the Hearts Come Home bundle is clearly intended as a Christmas set  but is actually good all year.

For the first card, I used the sponge brayer to apply Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie and Elegant Eggplant ink to a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I then stamped with Basic Black Archival ink, added the moon and stars with white heat embossing and sponged below the houses with Basic Black ink. If I'd planned properly (!), I would have clear embossed the moon and stars before I started adding colour.

Simply snip off the tree for a non-Christmas card

The middle card is also a Christmas card but this time I used the dies from the bundle to cut Basic Black cardstock, glued this to a piece of Whisper White cardstock, added Year of Cheer Washi Tape and a sentiment from Hang Your Stocking cut with the label from the Rose Garden Thinlits, edged with Crushed Curry and Basic Black ink. It needed a bit of bling so I added some Black Rhinestones.  I used Stampin' Write Markers to colour in the windows.

How to extend the Hometown Greetings die cut

Those familiar with the dies may be thinking - but there are only three houses in the row!  To add the fourth house, cut with the first die and then place the next die in position (I could feel when the blade of the second die fit in with the cut for the ground left by the first die).  To cut the house from the second die, the tree and church had to overlap the houses I'd already cut, so I positioned the top cutting plate in such a way that only the house was covered and, therefore, only the house was cut.  To avoid the overlap, you could simply use the same die twice.

This last sample is a housewarming card.  I brayered Dapper Denim to the top part of a piece of Soft Sky cardstock and stamped the houses with Basic Black.  Since Santa is nowhere in sight - I added the smoke coming from the chimneys!  I sponged the lower part of the card with Basic Black and then added some ribbon and a bow to soften the look a little.  This Soft Sky ribbon is, sadly, from my retired stash because I haven't yet purchased the current Soft Sky Classic Weave ribbon.

The Hearts Come Home stamp set is good for more than just Christmas!

The greeting is from the Sweet Home stamp set and I punched it out with the Duet Banner Punch.  I then sponged with Soft Sky ink in the same way as I did for this card.

Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop - Something Different

This month our theme is: Something Different

The front of the mini album features mainly the Eastern Palace suite of products

I have never made an album before - so that's something different for me!  It was a lot of fun to make but really challenged my patience!  It turns out that actually making the bare bones of the album is the quick part - off and on it took me weeks to decorate the album and make all the little surprises.

I worked from a tutorial by Corenescreations.

The final challenge was to photograph it!  Unfortunately it didn't fit into my light box properly so I spent another day trying to edit out all the joins and seems of the box that were not very attractive features of my photographs!

Each page has a side tab to pull out a double-sided layout sheet

The frame on the front of the album is cut with one of the Lots of Labels framelits in conjunction with a Layering Oval framelit.  The lined sheet is cut from one of the Merry Little Christmas Memories & More cards with the idea that a date and the contents of the album can be written on the lines.

The Eastern Palace papers are so elegant!

Each page has a double-sided pull out.  I used the Circle Tab Punch to create the tags and decorated them with Copper Foil Sheet circles cut with the coordinating circle punch.  I glued the tabs onto the base card before I added cardstock layers so that they wouldn't catch the edges of the pockets.

 Some of the pages fold open to reveal an extra panel.  Hidden magnets hold them closed.

The page to the right has a flap, held closed with a magnet, that opens up into a three page spread

There are lots of decorative elements in the album but I've tried to maintain some consistency.  The various elements are cut with the following products:

Other pages have decorative pockets that hold another double-sided card - one side is Dapper Denim and the other is Tranquil Tide.

Daisy Sympathy Card

THEME: Sympathy
I try to always have one sympathy card ready so that I'm not trying to create while emotional.  It is a really sad time when our friends and family lose someone they love in death. We have a wonderful gift of being able to let them know that we are thinking of them and have taken time to make them a very special card or project to show them we love them and are thinking of them during their difficult time.

The Calypso Coral and Night of Navy colours echo the colours in the Delightful Daisy paper

I punched two daisy pieces from Smoky Slate cardstock and sponged them both with some Calypso Coral ink, concentrating the colour on the tips of the petals and the centre of the flower.  I also added some Peekaboo Peach ink to the bottom layer of the flower.

 

Texture & dimension are provided by the flower, embossed background & raised banner

I added the greeting from Teeny Tiny Sentiments in Night of Navy ink to the punched banner and then masked the centre of the banner and sponged Night of Navy ink onto the banner ends.

The flower and the banner are attached with Stampin' Dimensionals.  I think the rest of the card is fairly self-explanatory.

Keeping the inside simple and supportive

The greeting inside the card is from the Flourishing Phrases set and is stamped in Night of Navy ink.  The silhouette from the Flirty Flowers stamp set is stamped with Smoky Slate ink, stamped off first.

Graceful Garden

A pretty card for a gardener or someone who likes roses

This is a great stamp set for producing a watercoloured rose quickly and easily.  It's perfect for anyone feeling a bit daunted by watercolouring a flower too.  

The trellis and the label are copper heat embossed for a touch of glamour.  Greeting is from Birthday Blooms stamp set.

To get a more natural effect, colour the stamp with Stampin' Write Markers so that you have green foliage and stem and the colour of your choice for the flower.  I used Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry for this flower.  If you don't have markers, consider stamping in a neutral colour such as Basic Black or Crumb Cake.

The flower will already look attractive and can be left at that - or you can add some more colour.  I used a damp brush and Sweet Sugarplum and Pear Pizzazz inks to fill in the flower.   

Tip:  To maintain a crisp image, avoid brushing across the stamped ink so that you don't lift or disperse it.   

The advantage of Basic Black Archival ink is that, being waterproof, (once it's properly dry) you won't have to worry about colouring over it.

Inside the card, I left the flower uncoloured.  The greeting is from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous stamp set

Inside the card, I stamped the smaller flower in the same way but didn't colour it in.  I masked it and then stamped the trellis pattern with Pear Pizzazz ink.

I used Versamark to stamp only one of these two copper heat embossed labels - but which one?!

Just as a little aside - can you spot the difference in the appearance of the copper heat embossing in these two labels?  Neither could I!  The top one is stamped with Basic Black ink and copper heat embossed and for the bottom one I used the usual Versarmark ink.
