Golden Reindeer

This week I've been sharing my "this leads to that" creative process and this card represents the end of the chain.

Finding a good home for the negative piece of cardstock leftover when die cutting

On Wednesday I shared a card for which I cut a reindeer from Early Espresso cardstock - well this is what happened to the negative piece - a little bit of gold turns negative to positive!

It's always good to have a bit of gold at Christmas!

I simply laid the Early Espresso piece on top of a piece of Gold Foil Sheet and placed it onto my card.  I gold heat embossed the label from Seasonal Bells and cut it out with the coordinating die in the Bunch of Banners Framelits.

I also took the opportunity to use up a piece of the Year of Cheer Specialty Designer Series Paper.  I'm not sure where I was going with the diagonal cut at the time but I used it in this card by simply gluing it to the Early Espresso base card.

As I looked through Jenny's blog for a card to CASE, my oohs and aaahs must have been audible!  I was like a kid in a candy shop - I just couldn't decide so I've combined elements from two cards!  Click on the images to learn more about Jenny's cards.

I've combined the layers and Swirly Snowflake Edgelits from one card with the circle and banner ideas from the other to make a Christmas card in elegant but non-traditional colours.

Much as I love it, I sort of regret using the Year of Chear Specialty Designer Series Paper on this card because I lost the gorgeous simplicity and clean lines.  On the other hand - I think it's OK to be a bit over the top with Christmas cards!

I used the Thick Whisper White cardstock for the base card since the DSP is gold and white but I do think I would prefer the combination of Early Espresso and Very Vanilla.

The centre of that snowflake is crying out for some bling - which I added later!

I applied some Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet to the back of the Gold Foil cardstock before I cut the snowflake, which made it much easier to stick to the Early Espresso circle (which was cut with one of the Stitched Shapes framelits).

My last critique of my card is that I forgot to put some bling in the centre of the gold snowflake until after I'd taken the photos and was looking at them when writing this post (too late to correct the situation and take more photos!).  

Ah well - I've disappointed myself but it'll spur me on to do better next time I hope!

This is an embarrassingly simple card, but very effective.

An embarrassingly easy Christmas Card using the Star of Light Bundle

To the base card of Night of Navy, add a layer of Smoky Slate.  Cut a the top layer from Night of Navy cardstock, rub it thoroughly with an Embossing Buddy then, using Versamark, randomly stamp the swirly image from the Star of Light stamp set.  Sprinkle with silver embossing powder and heat.  

The top layer can then be adhered to the card.

Cut a piece of Silver Foil Sheet with the large plain star from the Starlight Thinlits set.  Then cut the detailed star from Silver Glimmer Paper and adhere it to the Silver Foil star.  Glue a sequin from the Brights Sequin Assortment to the centre of the star (the Fine Tip Glue Pen is good for this job) and adhere the finished star to the card with dimensionals.

Using Stazon ink, stamp the banner greeting from the Seasonal Bells stamp set onto Silver Foil Sheet and cut it out with the matching Bunch of Banners framelit.  Adhere the banner to the card with some dimensionals.

How easy was that?!

Star of Light on circles - using up leftovers!

The other day I made some spinner cards with the awesome Sliding Star Framelits set.  If you saw that post, you'll know that I always keep the leftover bits for later use!  In this card I've used the "tracks" from two slider cards!

The background is a piece of Soft Sky cardstock that I ran through the Big Shot in the Lucky Stars embossing folder.  I cut the stars from Silver Glimmer paper with the Starlight Thinlits Dies.  At the centre of the larger star is a sequin from the Brights Sequin Assortment.

The greeting is from the Seasonal Bells stamp set, heat embossed in silver onto Night of Navy cardstock and cut out with the matching Bunch of Banners framelit.

Super simple!!

Metallic Winter Trees

If I ever get tired of metallics, it certainly won't be before Christmas!  While copper is my favourite, I also have a great fondness for gold and silver so, not being able to choose between them, I made one card in each colour!

I think I like the silver card the best

While the colours are different, the methodology is the same for each card and it's quick and simple!

The base card is a piece of A5 card folded in half with a metallic layer (corresponding to the heat embossing I used) on top.

The gold was the first one I made

I started by giving the top layer a good wipe with my embossing buddy, stamped the ground piece with Versamark and heat embossed it.  I then heat embossed the trees and reindeer, being careful to avoid over-heating the ground section.  I added the snow by stamping in Versamark.

Whilst copper remains my favourite metallic, I'm not sure I like it so much in this card!

I stamped the banner in Stazon ink onto corresponding metallic foil sheet before cutting out with the matching die from the Bunch of Banners framelit set.

I know, here in Australia, Christmas is in Summer but I still like a traditional wintry scene on Christmas cards!
