Carousel Birthday

This is a card that evolved! After the Christmas rush, I made myself tidy and clean my craft room (I even finally got around to painting the ink storage units that I bought a couple of years ago!). Part of the resolution involved using up the growing pile of extras and rejects - things that hadn't quite made it into previous projects and had been cluttering the end of my table. Such had been the fate of the pretty pink shimmery sunburst until now.

It was the work of minutes! I stamped the carousel in Basic Black onto a square of Crumb Cake and cut a Basic Black mat for it before round cornering.

With markers, I added a touch of Basic Gray to the legs of the crousel and Melon Mambo to the cupcakes. I then added some sequins to go with the glimmer paper. The sequins on the cupcakes are from the Brights Sequins Collection and the larger sequin in the centre is from the Good Vibes Project Life Accessory Pack.

I stamped the greeting in Basic Black onto Crumb Cake and cut it out with a square Stitched Shapes framelit, then added a Basic Black mat.

Inside the card, I used a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock that was already trimmed. It's smaller than I would normally use but, as it turns out, I don't mind the larger border!

To offset the large area of black, I stamped the horse in the corner and coloured it bright colours with the Watercolour Pencils and an Aqua Painter.

Beautiful You Sunburst - Sneak Peek Occasions 2017

One of my beautiful nieces will be celebrating her birthday early in the New Year. I've finally learned to make her card early enough to reach her despite Holiday mail times!

This gorgeous lady is from a stamp set in the 2017 Occasions Catalogue called "Beautiful You"

The focal image of the dancing lady is stamped with Basic Black ink onto Shimmery White cardstock and coloured with Watercolour Pencils and an Aqua Painter. I then used the "out of the Box" technique to die cut her with one of the circle Stitched Shapes dies - leaving her lovely long limbs free to dance. This piece is glued onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock cut with the largest of the Layering Circles framelits.

The sunburst is die cut using Silver Glimmer Paper and then adhered to a piece of Basic Gray cardstock. I added a Basic Black mat and then adhered it to the base Rose Red base card (I actually wanted to use Melon Mambo but I'd run out of 12" square card in that colour!). The base card is quite large at 8" x 12" folded in half to make 8" x 6".

The greeting is stamped in Basic Black onto Rose Red card and cut out with a square Stitched Shapes Framelit - coverted to an oblong. I used the same method to create a Basic Black mat for it.

Not used to making such large cards, I felt the need to fill in some space with another image from the set!

I stamped another greeting from the same stamp set inside the card and another of the beautiful ladies.

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop - March 2016 - Blended Bloom

The card I cased

This is the card I eventually chose to CASE. I found so much inspiration on Allison's blog that it was difficult for me to narrow it down! I really liked the idea of using a vellum die cut sunburst to add an additional subtle layer of interest to a card. In the case of my card, it also served to tone down the pattern on the DSP I used for my background.

I used the same concept with the vellum and similar layout to highlight a Blended Bloom that I had been watercolouring.

I stamped the banner from the Bloomin' Love set in Basic Black and added a Teeny Tiny Sentiment in Rose Red.

I trimmed the vellum sunburst to the same size as the DSP layer and adhered that to a Basic Black layer before adding it to the front of the Rose Red card.

I stamped the Blended Bloom onto Shimmery White cardstock with Rose Red ink. My first step was to colour in the stamens with a Basic Black Stampin' Write marker, so that I didn't "lose" them!

Working one petal at a time (making sure any adjacent petals were dry), I watercoloured the flower with Rose Red and Elegant Eggplant inks. I used the purple to add the deep shadows. For the highlights, I left the white of the cardstock showing.

I like to use ink from the refill bottles (I just squeeze a few drops into the lid of the relevant stamp pad) so that I can more easily control my ink/water mix - which affects the depth of colour I add.

I painted the centre of the flower with Gold Wink of Stella and added a few dabs to the stamens for highlights.

Sunburst Thinlit off-cut Thank You Card

This is how I used the off-cut from the black layer of this card.

Off-cuts from the Sunburst Thinlit Die put to good use!

Using the same method that I described in this post, I layered the off-cut onto a pre-cut piece of Perfectly Artistic Designer Series paper and then onto a layer of Basic Black Cardstock before adhering to my So Saffron card.

With black ink, I stamped the greeting from the Happy Notes stamp set and then cut it with a Lots of Labels framelit which I adhered to a Basic Black layer but with a larger framelit.

I cut some flowers with the Botanical Builder Framelits from Crushed Curry and Basic Black cardstock, curled the petals a little and sponged the edges of the yellow petals with black ink.

I stuck everything onto the front of the card and added a few Rhinestone Jewels. I also added a little bit of Wink of Stella to yellow petals for a bit of glamour.
