Daisy Delight in Cherry - Sneak Peek

The other day I sat down with my new Daisy Delight Bundle, watercolour paper and Pool Party, Bermuda Bay and Cherry Cobbler inks  and made a coup of cards.  (You can see the other one here).

The Daisy Delight Bundle will be available in the 2017-2018 Annual Catalogue

The entire surface of the watercolour paper had a light wash of Pool Party ink followed by Bermuda Bay, concentrating more colour in the lower left corner and blending out.

I stamped foliage with Pool Party ink and little daisies with Cherry Cobbler while the wash was still damp - although they didn't blend very much.

The double layered daisy is stamped with Basic Black ink onto Whisper White card and watercoloured with Cherry Cobbler ink.  The centre is one of the gorgeous new Faceted Gems.

When the panel was dry, I added the Cherry Cobbler ribbon (I'm sorry to say that it's retired but it was just what I needed!) and adhered it to the Cherry Cobbler base card.  As a last minute thing, I added some little Rhinestone Basic Jewels at random on the card.

Nadine has a beautifully delicate touch and a great eye for design and colour, so it was difficult to choose from all her gorgeous projects! 

I really enjoyed browsing through her blog in her original German - just using a translator for critical bits!  What a great way that would be to learn a new language - as long as you don't rely on Google Translate, which would have us believe that the lovely Nadine might eat her children! "My dear ones, I am swinging into our kitchen now, because our kids are all coming from the school and wanting to be eaten."  Haha!  Shame on you, Google!

I love the look of watercolour wash backgrounds (and Nadine is an expert!).  I've never been good at them but I love this card of Nadine's so I've been practising!  You'll very quickly see that my touch with colour is far less delicate and I need a lot more practice!

The watercolour wash background uses Daffodil Delight, Berry Burst and Pear Pizzazz inks

I'm hoping the colours look right on your monitor - I found I had to make some adjustments because the beautiful Berry Burst colour was looking much too blue on my screen.

To the watercolour background I added a Swirly Scribble cut in Whisper White, paper-pieced with Daffodil Delight card.

The word "Friend" is cut with one of the new Lovely Words dies - I simply snipped it out of it's little frame and glued it to a Whisper White oval cut with one of the Stitched Shapes dies.  I adhered the panel to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

I've added some twirls of Gold Metallic thread above the oval shape for a little more interest.

The decorative panel is layered onto a piece of Whisper White card and then adhered to the front of the Berry Burst card.

I used an offcut from the front panel to decorate the inside of the card

Daisy Delight Watercolour Wash - Sneak Peek

This is the first watercolour wash background I've done that I've been prepared to share - oh happy day - I'm making progress!

The new Daisy Delight Bundle makes for a quick and gorgeous card

I cut the watercolour paper to size and gave it an all over light wash with very watery Pool Party.  After drying that layer I added a couple of layers of smaller areas of Bermuda Bay (drying between each layer) and finished with a couple of small light touches of Cherry Cobbler to balance the flower.

Once my last layer was dry, I stamped the greeting and background foliage with Basic Black ink.  Lacking Cherry Cobbler ribbon, I repeat stamped the little daisies in Cherry Cobbler ink.

I stamped the daisy image twice with Basic Black onto Whisper White card and watercoloured them with Cherry Cobbler ink before quickly cutting them out with the matching Daisy punch (save 10% by buying the stamp/punch bundle).

The centre of the daisy is one of the gorgeous new Faceted Gems.

The decorated panel is adhered to a basic card of Cherry Cobbler.

Lifting Me Up Tag Pull

I love this bundle and decided I wanted to help it live up to its name.  So this balloon lifts up.

At rest, the balloon is towards the bottom of the card

It took me all afternoon to work out how to accomplish my goal but it was worth it because I'm very happy with the result!

As the tag is pulled up to reveal the greeting, the balloon rises too

I'm not normally big on planning, so this was a bit of a departure for me!  The first thing I did was to work out my sizes and plan my layers.

Then I took a scrap piece of watercolour paper and used, more or less, the smooching method to apply Crushed Curry and Tangerine Tango inks.  I did this twice, drying the piece off with a heat tool in between.  While the second coat was wet, I picked up a little Real Red ink with a damp brush and dabbled it on so that it blended a bit.

 While the watercolour was drying, I cut my layers and the pieces for the mechanism which comprises the front "pocket" with the slit cut into it, a tag and a little piece of window sheet (cut and bent as per the photo below).

I cut my pocket from Carried Away Designer Series Paper (free during Sale-A-Bration with a $90 purchase).  The size is 4" wide by 5.5" long.  I scored each of the sides at 1/2" and made a cut in the centre from 1 3/8" from the top down to 3 7/8" from the top.  I also cut half a circle from the top centre using a 3/4" circle punch.

The tag is just a fraction smaller and I cut it from Mint Macaron cardstock.  I cut a 3/4" circle of Smoky Slate cardstock, folded it in half and then glued it over the centre of one end to form the tag pull.

I attached the lower flaps of window sheet to the tag and the upper ones to the balloon

I cut a small piece of window sheet and cut and bent it to the above shape to attached the balloon.  The lower two flaps I glued to the tag.  I then pushed the window sheet up through the slit from the back and bent the upper two tags into shape before using glue dots to adhere them to the finished balloon.  when the tag is pulled, the small straight piece of window sheet slides up the slit in the pocket.
To finish the mechanism, I folded back the 1/2" flaps on either side of the pocket piece, added Fast Fuse adhesive and then adhered the pocket to the top of the card.

There is depth to the card between the lifting mechanism and the Stampin' Dimensionals

I cut the clouds from Whisper White cardstock and sponged around the edges with Smoky Slate ink, adding more ink to the bottom of the cloud.  These are adhered to the card with Stampin' Dimensions.  The tiny cloud is sitting in front of the top cloud, so I used a double layer of dimensionals.

The balloon is very simple.  I cut the outline from Basic Gray cardstock with the Up & Away Framelit and then glued it to the piece of watercolour paper.  Once the adhesive was dry, I trimmed away the excess watercolour paper, including the little piece between the basket and the balloon, which I trimmed away with a craft knife.

I've kept my card relatively small because I wanted to used the Thick Whisper White card for the card base.  These are the sizes I used:

Card base:         6" x 7" scored and folded at 3.5"
Basic Gray:       3 3/8" x  5 7/8"
Mint Macaron:  3.25" x 5.75"

Wild About Flowers Revisited

This card is entered into this week's Crazy Crafters Project Highlights.  Click here to see the other great cards.

I made a big effort recently and tidied up my crafting space - big pat on the back for me!!  As part of the process, I went through the pile of  "rejects" that had been growing on my desk - making myself either use them or throw them away (aghh!)

Wild About Flowers works very well as a silhouette stamp

This was one of the pieces that caused me to hesitate - I thought the watercolour background had turned out a bit bland - before finally deciding to use it.  I made the panel at the same time as I made this card, in order to used up the ink.

I kept it simple and used some strong colours in the layers to counter-balance the pale colours of the watercolouring and, with the addition of the banner, I was quite pleased with the result.
