Masked Sponged mini Seascape

This is a card that nearly didn't happen!  Now it's entered into the Crazy Crafters Project Highlights.  Visit here to see all the great projects and vote for your favourites.

While teaching a class about masking: different types, various uses etc, I tore a little piece of paper and sponged with the ink that happened to be open on the table at the time - Soft Sky - to demonstrate how masking and sponging can be used to create a horizon line or range of mountains.  Tidying up after the class, I initially swept the little sample into the bin with all the other bits of rubbish.  However, it looked up at me reproachfully and seemed to say "Rescue me and give me a purpose"!

So this is the finished card.  It has a masculine feel and is multi-purpose.  It could be seen as a painting on a wall or a scene from a window, depending on one's point of view or purpose.

Masked & sponged masculine card - maybe a Bon Voyage card for someone going on a cruise!

The Seascape
I also rescued the masks and added some Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant to my mountains.  I decided to make a seascape so I added some Soft Sky, Wisteria Wonder and a touch of Elegant Eggplant to the sea before using the wave image from High Tide to stamp watery highlights with Whisper White Craft ink.

I used a 1/2" circle punch and post it note to create another little mask for the sun and then sponged the sky with Soft Sky ink.  I removed the mask and used one of the Pattern Party masks and Embossing Paste to put some clouds in the sky.

Once the clouds were dry, I watercoloured the sun with some So Saffron ink and stamped some birds with Basic Gray ink.  I added a touch of Smoky Slate ink to the lower parts of the clouds.

The Background Design
For the background paper, I used another of the Pattern Party masks and Wisteria Wonder ink on Smoky Slate cardstock.  To calm down the busyness and help the eye to focus, I used some washi tape to mask stripes and lightly sponged with Wisteria Wonder ink.

The Frame
I wanted the frame to sit just slightly proud of the scene to be either an art or window frame so I cut it from Wood Textures Designer Series Paper and then cut a slightly smaller version from some old packaging material that I glued to the underside.

I then assembled everything on the Basic Gray card base.

This is how the piece started: a quick sample of masking & sponging left over from a class
The photo below gives a little idea of the dimension added by the frame and the clouds.

Flourish Resist

Ink background on Glossy cardstock, Flourishing Phrases, Background Bits, Versamark Resist, #thecraftythinker, Stampin Up Australia Demonstrator, Stephanie Fischer, Sydney NSW
This was the second piece of card that I dipped into the puddle of ink on my craft mat.
This is the last of the cards I made all on one inky afternoon!  Previous cards can be seen here and here; and the full description of the inky process can be found here.

For this piece, I stamped the little flowers with Versamark before I started the inky process.  Since the Versamark resists the ink, they remain white.

Once the background was dry, I stamped the images with Basic Black Archival Ink and made sure that was dry before I added some more colour to the stamped images with Stampin' Write Markers in Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide.

To weight the bottom of the card, I stamped one of the Background Bits images with Elegant Eggplant ink.

I only wanted a thin line of ribbon on the card, so I applied adhesive to one side of the ribbon and folded it in half.  My lovely friend, Satomi, taught me to make the little bow substitute with a piece of ribbon and some glue dots.  The Faceted Gems provide the final bit of lift to the finished card.

Thank you for visiting.

Flourishing Phrases on Glossy Sponged Background

Although it uses Glossy Cardstock, this card is a little different from the others that I made all in one afternoon because the colours are sponged onto the cardstock.

Sponged inks really glow on Glossy White Cardstock
I used the same colours and basic design as in this card and this one and added the Daffodil Delight ribbon.  The greetings are from the Eastern Beauty stamp set.

I used Stampin' Write Markers in Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide to colour in the flourish.

The base card is Bermuda Bay with layers of Elegant Eggplant and Crushed Curry.

Flourishing Phrases with inky background

The other day I shared this card with you and mentioned that I made several at the same time, so this is the second that I'm sharing from that batch!

The extra colour is added with a Stampin' Write Marker

This was the first piece of card that I pressed into the wet ink (method described in full here), so the colours are more clearly defined.  When they were dry, I stamped the card fairly randomly with a text stamp and Bermuda Bay ink.

I stamped my main decorations in Basic Black Archival Ink and then used a heat tool to ensure that they were dry before adding some more colour with a Bermuda Bay Stampin' Write Marker.

The decorative piece is layered onto Bermuda Bay and the base card is Lemon Lime Twist.

Thank you for your visit.
