Animal Outing meets Colorful Seasons

An Animal Outing birthday card

I do struggle a bit with children's cards - but then I struggle a bit with children!

This is for a little great niece turning 3.

I started by stamping the giraffe and frog with Saddle Brown Stazon ink onto Whisper White cardstock and then added foliage, masking as I went, using the Colorful Seasons stampset (which is retiring very soon) and Free As A Bird stampset.

Then I watercoloured my little scene, taking care not to use too much water and being gentle with my strokes to preserve the integrity of the Whisper White cardstock.  The Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper would have been more suitable ... but I didn't think ahead!

The sentiment is also stamped with the Saddle Brown Stazon ink.  Then I placed layers of Soft Suede and Granny Apple Green cardstock onto my Soft Suede card base.

TIP: MASKING

• Decide which image is to be at the front of your scene and stamp that first.
• Stamp the same image onto the sticky part of a post it note (so that the sticky bit is on the back!)
• Cut out this image INSIDE the lines.
• Stick the mask you've just made on top of the corresponding image in your project
• Stamp your next image - it will look like it's behind the first image you stamped.
• Masking is also useful for protecting images while you sponge around them.

Animal Outing - 2nd Birthday card

This is a simple little card that I made for a cute little girl who lives in another hemisphere!  I thought she'd like an Aussie card!  The cute little animals are coloured with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.

Since I never seem to part with anything, I was able to use a die from one the retired sets (Large Numbers) to cut the number.

TIP:  To preserve cardstock, I used the middle of the label (that I knew was going to be covered up) to cut one of the words.

Wild About You Giraffe

Well, I'll admit that when I received the Animal Outing stamp set as a gift from Stampin' Up at On Stage in April, I was grateful for the freebie but not "wild about" the stamp set and it has languished, unused, on the shelf ever since.

However, it caught my eye while I was looking for something appropriate for my small great nephew's birthday card and suddenly the possibilities started rolling into my mind!

I've combined it with the branch from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits and leaves stamped and cut out with the Rooted In Nature bundle.

I never bought the Animal Friends Thinlits that coordinate with the Animal Outing stamp set and didn't feel inclined to fussy cut the giraffe, so I stamped him with Soft Suede ink directly onto the Balmy Blue cardstock.  Of course, this created something of a colouring challenge - I didn't want an overly dark giraffe but, then again, nor did I want him to be green! Hopefully, he looks sufficiently giraffe-like!

Wild About You My Darling

Stampin' Up! very generously gave all of us who attended the On Stage event in Sydney in April a copy of the Animal Outing stamp set.  Naturally, I was very grateful for the gift, however, I didn't immediately like the set and it's been languishing on my shelf ever since.
