Ink it! Stamp it! Design Team Blog Hop May 2017: Celebrate

 

Welcome to the inaugural Ink It! Stamp It! Design Team Blog Hop - the brainchild of the amazing Carolina Evans.  I'm so thrilled to have been invited to join this team of talented crafters and excited about the journey on which we are just embarking together.

This card celebrates the 40th birthday of a friend's daughter who is a keen surfer and will be spending her special day in Bali.

The lovely outdoor seat is from the new Seasonal Layers die set - available from 1st June

At first glance the card is a simple tropical sunset scene - but wait, there's a surprise!  Pull on the tag ...

I took this photo before I added the ribbon to the card - oops!  But I think you'll see it needed it.

I don't like using non-current Stampin' Up! products - but when needs must ... these were the only number dies that fit!

... birthday wishes are revealed!  If you're wondering how I made the paper on the extensions: a while ago, I made a stamp with the Swirly Scribbles thinlet.

Kylie Bertucci's International Blog Highlight: Masculine Card - Eastern Beauty Bundle

This card is included in Kylie Bertucci's International Highlights.  The top ten winners will be part of an international blog hop - so we're all keen to do well!  Please visit to see all the amazing cards and vote for your favourites.  
Our theme for this highlight is Masculine.  

One of our friends is celebrating his 70th birthday this week and this will be his card.  I think the colour combination saves this card from femininity.  I was concerned about adding the medallion and tassel but then I came to the conclusion that there's no reason why a man shouldn't have the pleasure of receiving a beautifully appointed card!

Opulent but masculine with the Eastern Beauty bundle!

The card base is in the new In-Colour, Lemon Lime Twist (the one I thought I wouldn't like!) and the paper is from the Eastern Palace Specialty Designer Series Paper pack. 

The horizontal band is made with more Lemon Line Twist cardstock and some Dapper Denim decorated with gold stickers from the matching Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers.  The Dapper Denim, Gold Foil and Lemon Lime Twist medallion is created with the Eastern Medallions thinlits, Layering Circles framelits and a circle punch.  At the centre is one of the gorgeous new Glitter Enamel Dots  and of course there's a beautiful gold tassel from the new Mini Tassels Assortment.

Inside the card can be found a greeting and age stamped in Lemon Lime Twist and Dapper Denim with the Number of Years stamp set.  The corners are decorated with one of the stamps from the new Eastern Beauty stamp set and Tranquil Tide ink (one of the new In-Colours).

Stampin' Dreams Blog Hop - Theme: Retiring Products

Deciding which retiring products to showcase required no thought for me - I so love the Botanical Builder dies.  I will really miss those and the Curvy Keepsake die.  So I combined them to create a matching set of gift box and card.  I really went overboard with the flowers - but why not ... it's a last hurrah!

To create the Sahara Sand base for the flowers, I drew around the inside of the die and cut it out with my snips. 

I then partially cut with the small strip die from the Retired Balloon Pop-Up thinlits to create a matching slit to fit over the box handle.  This could be done with a pair of snips though.

The only reason for adding in this step was to give the pink flowers a plain foil so that they would show up to their best advantage against the floral paper of the box.

I used the retiring In-Colour Mint Macaron for the card base and a layer of Blooms & Bliss Designer Series Paper followed by a piece of Sahara Sand to show the pink flowers to best advantage.

The greeting banner (from Basket For You) is also retiring and has been a real go-to greeting for me for the past year!  I stamped it in Basic Black ink onto Island Indigo card and cut it out with the matching die from the Bunch of Banners framelits.  I then added some highlights to the banner with the retiring Stampin' Chalk Marker.

The flowers are all cut with the Botanical Builder dies from a mix of Blooms & Bliss paper, Sahara Sand, Sweet Sugarplum and Rich Razzleberry cardstock and sponged with Rich Razzleberry ink.  The centres are Rich Razzleberry and Sweet Sugarplum Enamel Shapes.  The leaves are cut from Mint Macaron and Tranquil Tide (new In-Colour) cardstock and sponged with Tranquil Tide ink.

The matching flower inside the card uses the Botanical Blooms stamp set,
Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry and Basic Black inks

The birthday greeting inside the card is from the retiring Cottage Greetings stamp set.

A heart-shaped Enamel Shape in Sweet Sugarplum forms the centre of the flower

Then, of course, I had to make a deep envelope to accommodate all the flowers on the front of the card!

Daisy Delight Watercolour Wash - Sneak Peek

This is the first watercolour wash background I've done that I've been prepared to share - oh happy day - I'm making progress!

The new Daisy Delight Bundle makes for a quick and gorgeous card

I cut the watercolour paper to size and gave it an all over light wash with very watery Pool Party.  After drying that layer I added a couple of layers of smaller areas of Bermuda Bay (drying between each layer) and finished with a couple of small light touches of Cherry Cobbler to balance the flower.

Once my last layer was dry, I stamped the greeting and background foliage with Basic Black ink.  Lacking Cherry Cobbler ribbon, I repeat stamped the little daisies in Cherry Cobbler ink.

I stamped the daisy image twice with Basic Black onto Whisper White card and watercoloured them with Cherry Cobbler ink before quickly cutting them out with the matching Daisy punch (save 10% by buying the stamp/punch bundle).

The centre of the daisy is one of the gorgeous new Faceted Gems.

The decorated panel is adhered to a basic card of Cherry Cobbler.

Eastern Beauty Floral

I just can't stop using the Eastern Beauty Bundle - it's so amazingly versatile and fun to use!  On this card, I've paired it with some paper-pieced leaves created with the Rose Garden thinlits.

When I first saw the new In-Colour, Lemon Lime Twist, my reaction wasn't very favourable.  I thought it was too bright, acidic and well - green.  I thought to myself "there's a colour I'll never use!".  So now I'm officially eating my words!  I still dislike the colour on its own but I concede that it adds the perfect pop of "zing" to many colour combinations.  I can see that, in fact, I'll be using it quite a lot!

More new favourites of mine are the Glitter Enamel Dots!

The greeting is a combination of the the banner from Banners For You and the "Best Wishes" from .  The advantage of photopolymer being that I could bend the words to fit the banner. 

My new go-to birthday greeting is from the new stamp set "Happy Birthday Gorgeous"

Inside the card I stamped a couple of leaves from the Happy Birthday Gorgeous set using the new In-colour Tranquil Tide and coloured them with Lemon Lime Twist.  I then added another little flower made with the Eastern Beauty bundle.
